HP / Agilent 54621A 54622A - loud fan

I like having mine on all the time but the fan is loud.  Has anyone replaced the fan with something quieter?

This thread has the same query but no responses.

The concern was static pressure.

This is the fan being considered from that thread.

Like that poster, I would be concerned that the fan is replaced with the right kind.

I have a 54622D with probably the same original Panasonic FBA08A12U fan, and replaced it with a Noctua NF-R8 redux-1800 ($10 Amazon).  Had to file a bit of the plastic fan frame - otherwise a simple swap out, just don't use the third yellow wire.  The airflow specs went down from 47CFM to 31CFM, but though OK as I'm not operating the scope in the desert at an ambient 50 degC, and the scope dates from the "over engineered" HP era.  Have not experienced any cooling issues, but I do not leave it on all the time.  My ears really appreciate the reduction in background noise, recommended.

Damn you!   :-[

I just hit submit on an amazon order like 10 minutes ago!

The outcome info is much appreciated, I am going to try it and report back for others.

I swapped mine, everything was smooth save for the screws.  I didn't have to file anything.

I left the 2 prong in and snipped the wire, then spliced the new fan.

The screws didn't fit and this version I bought of the fan didn't have those brown mini sex toys that are ribbed and replace the screws.  They feel soooo go going in.

Luckily, ehem, I had a few from an old fan replacement and it works a treat.  The scope is quiet as a mouse.

If you have one of these, definitely make this change unless you run it hard and need the cfm, then look for something else.
