HP / Agilent 6645A Power supply question
« on: August 14, 2015, 03:54:49 am »
I have a chance to buy one for under $100.00 us. but its broken.
it passes it's self test and the voltage control works.
The shaft for the current control is broken, The control is a hp/optical encoder pn#0960-0912, can these be found?
Is it worth taking a chance on buying this?
I watched the video that dave made on the 6641 (667) and I am wondering if this model can be modified.
any opinions?
thank in advance

You can easily find the encoder, for example here:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Agilent-HP-0960-0912-RPG-Rotary-Encoder-/300815927900?hash=item460a06ca5c

Be careful. Older HP units will NOT work with that encoder! The one in that Ebay link is for newer 65XX 66XX power supplies. I don't know when the change-over was made.

Jay, you are definitely right.
For a 6645A series 3539A-00561 the right encoder is p/n 0960-0822 that should be Avago HRPG-AS32#59C.
My research was based only on the incorrect p/n 0960-0912.

I love these supplies, hope you can get it. Surely the encoder repair will not be too difficult.

Yup. Those are hard to find as well. Keysight hasn't had any stock for years, and they were always breaking off!
