Manufacturing visual validation
« on: December 02, 2015, 09:48:43 pm »
Does anyone know if there's a device or company that makes a product that can look at an assembly via a camera and makes sure it matches a template?

I had someone today ask about a way to validate all the correct devices were installed in a power distribution box.  Since each part used is color coded, it seems like it would be simple to create some system that looks at the finished product and sees if the colors match a template.

Such as Position A1 should have something Red, Position A2 has something green. Position A3 should be an empty socket. etc.

Roborealm should be able to do that easily. It, a SFF PC and a USB/Firewire/Ethernet camera will probably be a lot cheaper than any standalone vision system.

EDIT: Or, if you're a programmer, you can look into using the OpenCV library.
