HP3478A Display problem

Help sought from the brains trust please.
I picked up this HP3478A for a song knowing it had a display problem.
It flashes up part segment & sometimes th full display for a few seconds the nothing for about 30 sec to min then another quick flash.(See pics)
Any help or suggestions would appreciated.

I'm far from an expert but from what I've seen on the HP3478A, the display is impossible to get anywhere from other than another unit with a working display.

The symptom makes me think it is not the display itself, but more likely to be a power supply or LCD driver problem.

The display used in the HP 3488 switch unit does fit the 3478A. The only issue is one of the Ohms indicators (2 or 4 wire) is displayed as a marker rather than the correct symbol. It was possible to buy the 3488s very cheaply a while ago, especially without the modules. Been there, done that & rescued a 3478A from scrap.

The 3468A uses the same display as well, afaik? You might find a broken one with a good display. A 3478A is a much more worthy destination for the display anyway...
