A forum member asked me to upload a dump of my HP 8175A FW and I figured I would upload that along with .pdf copies of the manuals and other product literature I've collected for anyone that is interested.

For those thinking of picking one of these up, do note that there are two HW issues you will likely need to fix:

1) The NiCd back-up battery (2.4V, 110mAH, 2/3 AA) will be dead and possibly have leaked electrolyte onto the processor board. Two 1/3 AA or AAA NiMH batteries (connected in series) or a 5.5V 0.1 to 1 farad super capacitor can be used as a replacement. The super cap is likely to have less issue with leaking corrosive gasses/fluid in the event of a failure.

2) The power supply will need a replacement Y2 rated 22nF film capacitor (15.5mm pitch, 7mm max thickness). I would avoid using a RIFA/Kemet replacement part, seeing as how they still fail from cracking. Clearly, they don't care to fix the long standing issue with the faulty conformal coating.

Finally, the HP 8175A was intended to work with the HP 163x logic analyzers as a "stimulus response system" (see HP AN 341-1). My unit came with inverse assembler files for the 163x logic analyzers. I have archived the files I recovered off the floppy disks here:

Thanks for the reminder about the batteries.  I haven't used my 8175A in years and when I opened it up to take a look, I found that I had already removed the battery on the uP board and ran two wires to a plastic battery holder that I mounted near the fans (I don't remember doing this).  When I opened up the battery cover, the two AAA NiMH batteries that I installed years ago had leaked.  But at least nothing in the 8175A got destroyed.

What I really should do one day is get a bunch of little red stickers and put one on the front panel of each of my test equipment pieces that have any kind of batteries inside.  I simply can't keep track of which pieces do have them and when I ultimately come across one, the batteries are usually toast, including the ones that were used to replace the original.
