Title: HP/Agilent ftp site?
Post by: MatteoX on August 28, 2019, 03:22:42 pm
Agilent used to have an ftp site that among other things had installation disks for various instruments. When they split, Keysight continued to support it for a while but then most of the software disappeared. Keysight web page has very few software items for older instruments available online (or I couldn't find it)

Is there any place where this software is still available for download?

They still have a site ftp.keysight.com but from what I've seen they cycle stuff up to it - Basically if you contact their support people and ask for BLAH they'll post it to he FTP site for you but then after some period it is automatically removed.

At least that has been my experience of watching the site. YMMV.

What software are you looking for?  Or is this a general question?

Some of it has made it onto archive.org and the various boat anchor manual sites.  And sometimes a forum member who has it is willing to put up a copy for download.

The HP/Agilent/Keysight test equipment mailing list on groups.io is another good place to ask.

I have no problems connecting to Keysight for software programs like Benchvue for my HP/Agilent 34401A.  Keysight has versions going back to 2015.
Do you have something your looking for specifically?

I have the old Agilent DMM application.

It allows you to do logging etc without having to shell out hundreds of dollars for a license for Benchvue.

PM me for a link.

I have the old Agilent DMM application.

Thanks for the offer. I'll pm you.

What software are you looking for?  Or is this a general question?

I am looking for recovery disks for:

Agilent 1682A logic analyzer
Agilent 1692AD logic analyzer (at least software that runs on PC - this is a LA without display, it is connected to PC via firewire)
HP Infiniium Oscilloscope 54825A (there are several different versions, depending on the motherboard. I don't know on top of my head which one I have. It is definitely not the first or the last motherboard model, I believe there were at least 3 different motherboard types if I recall correctly).

The first and the third item are working so I am not desperate. I would just like to update them. For the firewire-based LA, I cannot even try it without PC side software)

Yes, Keysight has new software, I have visited their ftp site. But older software (especially Agilent and HP stuff) has dissapeared or at least I cannot find it on the Keysight's ftp.

They still have a site ftp.keysight.com but from what I've seen they cycle stuff up to it - Basically if you contact their support people and ask for BLAH they'll post it to he FTP site for you but then after some period it is automatically removed.

Thanks, that is good idea. I'll contact them and see what happens.

You can still download software for the 1690 series logic analyzers from Keysight. Go to the product page for the 16900A, then the Technical Support page, then the Drivers, Firmware & Software page.

There on the Current Version tab you can download the 05.90.1110 version. On the Previous Versions tab you can also download the 03.67.1008 version.

I forget if the 03.67.1008 version works on Windows 7, or only on Windows XP and Windows 2000. I have used the 05.90.1110 version with a 1690 series logic analyzer on Windows 7. If I remember right the Windows 7 version of the 1394 driver does not recognize the 1690 series logic analyzer and you have to go into Device Manager on Windows 7 and change the 1394 driver to the legacy version of the driver. I have never looked at trying 1394 on Windows 10, that might be more of a challenge as 1394 support was deprecated there.

Agilent 1682A logic analyzer

What motherboard do you have in your 1682A?

If the motherboard has a yellow DB15 joystick port then it is the old Tyan motherboard.

Else if the motherboard I/O ports are all black except the blue VGA port then it is the Radisys SC815E motherboard.

Else if the motherboard PS/2 ports, the LPT port, the serial port, the VGA port, and the audio ports are all different colors then it is either the Motorola VP22 or the ADLINK M-815G motherboard. If you pull the cover off so you can see the motherboard the Motorola VP22 has four PCI slots while the ADLINK M-815G has one AGP slot and three PCI slots.

For the Radisys SC815E motherboard you want the 01680-14100 recovery CDs.
For the Motorola VP22 motherboard you want the 01680-14104 recovery CDs.
For the ADLINK M-815G motherboard you want the 01680-14106 recovery CDs.
For the Tyan motherboard I don't know.  :-//

You can find the CD images here on the Internet Archive:
https://archive.org/download/ftp.keysight.com/

You can click on the View Contents link to see and download the individual files so that you don't have to download the entire 183GB 2015.03.ftp.keysight.com.tar archive.

These are the 1680 image files that are available there:

The 01680-14106 recovery CDs have later updates than the 01680-14100 and 01680-14104 recovery CDs. You can install from the 01680-14106 recovery CDs on a Radisys SC815E or Motorola VP22 motherboard if you workaround the motherboard ID check in the ag169xx.xml file on the first CD.

When I installed the software from scratch on a 1680AD with a dead hard drive I installed the 01680-14106 version on my Radisys SC815E motherboard. That restored Windows XP SP2 but no logic analyzer application. I installed version 03.67.1008 of the logic analyzer application separately after installing the recovery CDs. I tried upgrading the 1680AD to Windows XP SP3 and had some issues with the version 03.67.1008 of the logic analyzer application so I started over from scratch and just stuck with Windows XP SP2.

Thanks Gslick! This is exactly what I was looking for. I even didn't think that internet archive might have test instrument software.

You are very knowledgeable about this LA. I want to check the motherboard type right now but my inlaws have just arrived for the long weekend so I won't be able to open it till next week.

I wrote up some notes about installing the software on a 1680 a couple of years ago. If I didn't have those notes I wouldn't remember any of this.

I have tried quite a long time ago to install this software on a PC but the program installation was aborted for some reason that I don't remember anymore. I 'll try again, I have an old laptop with xp and firewire lying arround forgotten. I am now glad I did not get rid of it. Firewire ports dissapeared from laptops long time ago. I could put a firewire card in my desktop but if I get it working on the laptop things will be more portable.
