HP/Agilent Snap In Cabinet Feet? All the same?
« on: March 03, 2018, 03:58:14 pm »
I bought a real nice HP 6024A Power Supply but it's missing all it's feet. (it was probably rack mounted in the past).

I've researched the part number and found it to be 5040-7201 which are unobtainium.  However there are a ton of similar HP/Agilent feet on Ebay under P/N 5041-8801.

Does anyone know if the snap in mounting pattern is the same?

I really don't want to use rubber hardware store feet because the entire power supply would have to be disassembled to properly attach them and stick on feet are worthless.

TIA

I have some of these. Yes, they're the same mounting pattern.

I don't know the PNs but some of the HP feet look very similar but are screwed on with a screw from inside of the case. Look at the back of the foot and see if has the clip that you can press in and then slide the foot forward and lift it off of the case.  Both types of feet use the same metal bail but with the screwed on feet you have to remove the case from the equipment and then remove the screws from inside the case before you can remove the foot and then take the bail off.

Yes, they're the same mounting pattern.
The 6024A uses the bog standard mounting feet you find on 99.9% of the HP, Agilent and Keysight equipment.

  • Lots of engineer-tweakable parts inside!

Yep, makes you wonder where all those feet are hiding. Probably landfills. So sad.

When they surplus that stuff the workers don't care and the equipment gets slide or worse, thrown around, knocking the feet off. And breaking off the knobs but that's a different story.  In the surplus areas you'll find them laying all over the floors but they're usually lost by the time they get to someone that cares about the stuff.

BTW even the clip on feet aren't all the same.  I pulled out a bag of spares today and looked at them and some only say "rear feet" in small letters. Other's have much larger print and much more text including instructions to release the clip and slide the foot off.  They're also molded much cleanly.  I'm sure that HP had them made by numerous sub contractors over the years.

PS I just went and looked again. I thought that perhaps the "rear feet" didn't have the notch for the folding metal bail but they do.  I have no idea why they marked them "rear".

I don't have one yet, but this seems like an ideal application for 3D printing.  Maybe someone has already done the reverse engineering to generate the solid model.

Why would you do that? The 'HP' feet can be bought from Ebay for a few dollars. However equipment feet from other manufacturers are much harder to find.
