HPAK branding - 34401A
« on: September 22, 2019, 08:35:18 pm »
Does someone here have an Agilent or Keysight branded 34401A ?
If so, can you tell me whether the SCPI *IDN? command reports it as HP, Agilent or Keysight ?

Got an Agilent branded 34401a. Here's the answer to *IDN?

Code: [Select]
-> *IDN?
<- HEWLETT-PACKARD,34401A,0,10-5-2

Thanks.
Seems sensible, since after the rebranding they'd still want it to work with existing test applications

Oddly the 34401A never had a serial number in it's *IDN? response, while almost every imitator does.

This discussion has me curios, the Agilent 34461A has claimed  industry exclusive only 100% drop in scpi compatible to the 34401. So what does *idn say?.
I don't have one to test. I could see 2 possibilities, a software set compatibility  mode which results in HP 34401 response or it always replies 34461A, in which case not really 100% compatible, LOL catch-22

On a 34461A
For compatibility purposes, use SYSTem:IDENtify HP34401A to return:

HEWLETT-PACKARD,34401A,<Serial Number>,ff.ff-pp.pp-mm.mm-gg.gg-bb-pp
