I bricked by Rigol DS2000
« on: April 09, 2013, 03:47:04 am »
Oops!  :palm:
Tried to downgrade the firmware from the dodgy version I have to the official 1.00.5 or whatever and all I get is a Rigol logo on boot.

@Dave

Have you tried boot update during boot process as Drieg tells here:

That's the sort of thing I'd keep quiet about and if anyone asked why I wasn't using the scope, I'd just say it broke.  ;)

Yep, that fixed it!
Thanks to Drieg

This bug has been fixed in FW 00.00.01.00.05 (there are still some bugs, axes in XY mode, trial options get expired after Self-Cal,..), so I suggest anyone with FW 01.00.02  to update to latest version. BUT, it is very IMPORTANT to do this update during boot process, not from the normal operation from the menu. Insert USB stick with the firmware, power-on the unit and pres shortly HELP button (immediately after POWER button before RIGOL logo appears). If it doesn't work, try again. If it still doesn't work, keep tying until it works. After you succeed, the SINGLE button will lights and update process will start shortly (CH1 LED blinks), after it's done, all LEDs light. Power-off, remove USB and power-on again.

All working good again with the original firmware

When Rigol doesn't publish their firmware online, I would expect those problems.  :-BROKE

That is odd, not to hijack, considering I'm about it buy how does one receive or be notified of updates?

They've done such a good job in general with the scopes, it's sad that they still can't get a firmware loader right. How hard is a checksum??

Recent firmware annoyance aside, how do you find the DS2022 compares to your MSOX3000 scope Dave?

Dave,

Do a Rigol DS2000 comparision with the Agilent that you have to see how the Rigol stacks up. I would suggest to show a Video signal since it is probably the most complex signal that one can use. It has high and low frequencies (digital sort of, horizontal and vertical sync) and analog. I would be interest how they compare. I would suspect the Agilent would win.

They are too different.
MSOX3000: only 4Mpts memory, 1000 000 waveforms/sec, but not more sensitive than real 4mV/div

DS2000: 56Mpts memory, sometimes up to 50 000 waveforms/sec, probably real 0,5mV/div

Each scope is good for someone else. But the Agilent will probably last longer. It has 5-year warranty

Your local dealer. But you'd likely have to ask.

Apples and oranges.
One is faster and mixed signal, with real hardware serial decoding, and the function gen is quite useful, as are the training signals. But I prefer the deeper memory, and vertical amp on the Rigol, and it has better features overall.
But I prefer the working and feel of the Agilent. The Rigol feels like it has too many bells and whistles that get in the way for day to day use.

Only talking comparisons with a 3000X speaks volumes of Rigol's VFM I guess.

Is this (supposed to be) available on the DS2072? Mine only goes to 2mV/div.

The datasheet certainly doesn't mention a difference.  Make sure you've got the channel set to 1x.  If it were set to 5x, then the lowest setting would be labelled 2.5mv.

Doi. Of course. I had a 10X probe connected.

Still haven't gotten used to the scope correcting for that automatically. I forget every time I hook up a 1X signal to it.
