I can not generate an activation key Rigol DS1054Z
« on: January 29, 2020, 10:04:14 pm »
Good day to all.  I bought a Rigol DS1054Z a few days ago.  And I want to unlock 100 MHz.  But I can’t do this, because on the site after entering the serial number Privatekey is not generated.  I tried different browsers and operating systems (windows 10, windows 7, windows xp, linux), tried to download the archive from the site and run it offline.  I tried to log in through the proxy.  I tried all the options that came to mind |O |O |O.  And I can not generate an activation key.  Who knows if the key generator works?

 P.S.  Sorry for my english

I assume you're trying to use riglol?  If so, then be advised that there is a problem with the web form version and it does not work.  Right now I believe that you can download the code and run it locally or, if you ask nicely, someone here may be willing to take your data and run the downloaded version for you.  Be aware that I am unable to do that for you.
If at first you don't succeed, get a bigger hammer

Yes, I meant Riglol.  Thanks so much for the quick reply.  Yes, I already thought to ask for help).  I'll try it again tomorrow myself.  If it does not work out, I will ask for help.  Thanks again!

Have not tried the following page (when I needed the riglol page was still running)
but try this page. http://n5dux.com/ham/riglol/

Reports please if it worked.

There's an older version of Riglol that still works:

I've reverted the link to the 1.03d version. I had applied some patches by request, to support MSO1000Z, and recompiled with emscripten, but apparently those patches are broken for the web. The executables (Windows and Linux) in the riglol-mso1000z-with-bins.zip file do still work though, so folks can use those if they don't want to use the web version.

Sorry I don't have time to actually curate this, but everything you need is there if you do a bit of digging ;). Maybe it shouldn't be *too* easy.

Would it be possible to remove "DSBA" (500uV Vertical) and change "DSFR" to "DSER"? 500uV Vertical doesn't work on the DS1000Z.

+1 for hiding the 500uV option.
It might save a lot of headaches for new-comers.  (And we can stop telling people to 'not' install it.)   ;)

I'm refraining from doing any actual development on any of the tools, I'm just not up to date enough on the current state of affairs. If someone wants to submit a patch or updated version I'm happy to host it.

That worked beautifully -- now the gotroot.ca server is down completely?
Maybe you had the right hunch not wanting to touch and break anything...  :(

Sorry the server outage was due to an unrelated fat-finger on my side. It is corrected now.

I also figured to hell with it, nobody else is maintaining this so I may as well. Updated the build setup so I can easily build win/linux/web binaries, fixed the bug with the web build of the MSO1000Z patched version, and moved it to a local git repository.

I didn't want to just hack the HTML file since the same options are listed in the C source. I will take a bit more time and refactor this into a separate file. Does someone have a reference for the 500uv option not working on all DS1000Z units? Why/when was it added if it doesn't work?

I don't know about earlier versions, but the 500uV worked fine on mine.  By fine I mean it worked as expected, once you account for fewer bits of resolution and a fair amount of noise.  I see no reason to worry about deleting it.
A 3.5 digit 4.5 digit 5 digit 5.5 digit 6.5 digit 7.5 digit DMM is good enough for most people.

The 500uV option has been built into the scope from day 1.

I believe discussion of problems with enabling it is buried somewhere in the huge Rigol thread:

Well, if you find it, let me know. For now I will leave it there. Options are now parsed from a JSON file at C build-time and dynamically on the web. The bugs with the newer version are fixed. I reorganized the riglol files strewn around the place. You will find sources and current binaries in the riglol-archives directory, as well as all the historical versions.

I don't know about earlier versions, but the 500uV worked fine on mine.

I think the problem is that it doesn't get calibrated during auto-cal, so it's down to luck.

It doesn't add anything and it's too easy to go there by mistake if you just spin the dial. I say remove it.

I'm of the impression the 500uv per division wasn't ever intended as a final option (even though you can enable it) it's never been sold and is not included on any of the 1000Z models specifications. Perhaps it's just there to debug or it looked shit and Rigol turned it into a possible option for a later hardware revision, who knows. If you read these posts here , here , here and here you will understand why it's not desirable to install. The 100MHz option on the other hand is hardware supported and tested working fine.

(Attachment Link)

Just curious, why are you keep pushing that advice to others?

I'm sorry that your unit doesn't work well in 500yV/div, but why not let other people try it.  Maybe their unit works well with the 500uV/div, mine does, and there is no possible damage in trying it, so why not?

Most of the arguments I've seen so far against enabling the 500uV/div range are either irrelevant or simply not true:
- (i.e. I like 1mV/div to be the most sensitive range because I have a wrong habit of turning the knob too much),
- (i.e. doesn't make part of self calibration - it's a software zoom, so it does not requires self-calibration)
- (i.e. doesn't show any trace in 500uV mode - mine shows all the traces spread less than a division, maybe some units are way off, or maybe it was some old firmware)
- (i.e. front end is noisy, so 500uV/div is useless - then use Average acquire mode to remove it)
- (i.e. is just a software zoom anyway - yes, but in x1024 Average mode the ADC gains 5 more bits of resolution, and the minimum step visible on the screen is still only 1 pixel, and that wouldn't be possible to see at all without the 500uV/div range)
- (i.e. but what if it doesn't work, after all - then bad luck, just remove the 500uV/div option)

In fact, not only that the 500uV is useful and works great on my DS1054Z, but I've met some situations where the measurement can't be made at all without switching to the 500uV/div range.

From a keygen standpoint, I agree that the option should stay. Rookies can later discover if they should enable it or disable, based on other's opinions.

I agree, if the option is not bricking scopes or otherwise causing actual problems, it should stay in. Especially if it's doing something, even if that thing has marginal utility.

I have figured out how to build OSX binaries, but I don't have an OSX machine to test them on. If someone wants to give a go for me... http://gotroot.ca/rigol/riglol-archives/riglol-1.1.2-osx64.zip. I'm not sure if these need to packaged in a .dmg or something to be useful for Apple users.
