Agilent 34461A Problems
« on: September 18, 2014, 11:53:41 pm »
I purchased a new 34461A in February 2014 and recently is has developed 2 different problems.

1.  Sometimes the screen will freeze and the keypad does not function.

2.  There will be a "Application Error" window that pops up and says "Application Torreys.exe encounter a serious error and must shut down"

These problems existed with the original firmware that came with the meter and they still occur since the most recent firmware upgrade (although it may be happening slightly less frequently)

I spoke with Agilent Customer Service and they said that there may be a problem with the connection from the front panel, he didn't seem to familiar with the 34461A.

The meter is under warranty and I may have to send it to a Service Center for repair

Has anyone else had these types of problems?

Thanks
Chris

Any particular mode or condition that this occurs in so that we could try to replicate it?

Not really, The meter is typically powered on for 6-8 hours per day.  Either problem can occur at any time or several times a day.

I wonder if Keysight would cross ship you a replacement.  Please post how it turns out.

This apparent bug is happening because LAN is enabled but the LXI service is off

Do this to remove the Application error dialog

  • Press Shift and then the Utility keys
  • Select I/O Config
  • Select LAN Settings
  • Select LAN Services
  • Toggle VXI-11 from Off to On
  • Select Done and repeat until you are back to the Home screen
  • Cycle Power
