I have fried my FY6800 waveform generator

(1/1)

Malmen:
So, I was testing some 250 voltage capacitors and I manage to forget to discharge one of them and connected it to my FY6800 with voltage on it. I dont know how much voltage but obviously enough. Well, I killed something because now my signals are very tiny and ugly looking. Both channels seems to be affected but only channel A got blasted. Is this worth trying to repair? What is the first thing that got hit? The amps under the heatsink? What to check first?

adeuring:
Yes, that's worth a try, I think.

Are you aware of the docs of the FY6600 collected here: https://github.com/DerKammi/FY6600-15-30-50-60M ? The FY6600 and FY6800 are quite similar, so the schematics (https://github.com/DerKammi/FY6600-15-30-50-60M/blob/master/Hardware/FY6600_Main_A0.pdf) may give you a clue where to look else for possible damage.

Harry_22:
Don't be too upset. For example, every LCR Bridge is sooner or later killed by an undischarged capacitor.
Post your results and we will help you.

A Schematic, great thanks! I see now why I get 5 volt offset and 12 volt offset on the output. Seems like the amps is letting the full rail voltage right through. When I adjust the amplitude above 5 volts it clicks the relay and I get full 12 volt on the output. Well I try to change the THS3002I amp and see if that is enough.

Malmen:
Update: So I got some chips from China and started to replace them. First the THS3002i with same result. Then I used a thermal camera and found a blazing hot 7905 voltage reg next to a AD8009 opamp. I ordered 5 of these opamps too so replaced that one and that fixed the problem!  :-+ Does not seem to be way out of calibration either so I will not bother with that and might mess something up. I'm happy to have a working signal generator again!
