Apart from IET/GenRad, does anyone know a source for the plastic case that comes with the IET version of the DE-5000 LCR meter? I'm preparing myself that GenRad will not sell just the case to those of us who have purchased the same meter from Japan for hundreds of dollars less than the IET price. I've considered a Pelican 1400, but that's a bit overkill.

If you look at the Japanese vendor from eBay DER DE-5000 thread we had posted links for some case options.
I think its down to a Pelican gun case [ for 1-4 pistols, not sure which size is optimalm but has foam inserts ] but there are options similar to the Merchant cases boxes from US Plastics that are $7 about $10 with S&H [ google for vendors selling them per piece vs. bulk, and one with foam options].

Many thanks for the info. I'll check out those sources.

Welcome. Here's a link to the start of the thread with the casing issue, then work down.

I found this vendor. I've not selected a case yet, but if you get one can you tell us which it was, to save us the trouble of choosing the size? :phew:

That looks like a nearly ideal case although the depth of the flambeau case may be marginal even if a thin layer of top and bottom foam is used.
Yesterday, I placed an order for a Pelican 1200 case. I think the cost was just under USD $40. The H x W dimensions are similar to the flambeau but has a bit more depth. It should also accomodate all the accessories without issue. When I get it, I'll attach a photo of the DE-5000 with the accessories in the case. I may have just wasted a bunch of money, but we'll see how it turns out.
Many thanks for the excellent homework!

Got the ruler out again and also ordered the Flambeau case. If it works out, I'll use the Pelican case for something else.

Just curious, what are you using the meter for, field work? Or do you just want the case for added protection in the lab?

Mostly just to keep everything organized. Can't tell you how many times I've pulled some piece of test equipment and misplaced leads, power cord, or accessories and hadn't found them for days!

This LCR meter has very specific accessories that would not be easy to buy again to replace. Its best performance is made with these specific accessories, so its does pay to keep it altogether. I currently just have them all in a nylon bag, but the Merchant case is so cheap that its cost effective. It also allows the whole unit and accessories to be stacked or shelved for storage and easy to pull out rather than kept in a drawer, where space is very limited.

You're welcome and photos, please when you get it.

Why? Do any of them even offer real four wire connections up to the DUT?
In my opinion LCR meters don't ship with enough accessories and are not fragile enough to warrant the extra space a case will take up and the hassle of taking it out of the case every time I measure a component.

The DE-5000 tweezers maintain separate 4 wire to within 1" from the tweezer tips. The alligator clip attachment wires are shielded pairs right to the connection on the alligator clip. I replaced the alligator clips with real Kelvin clips and it is real 4 wire/Kelvin right to the contact point on the DUT. In both attachments the shields of the wires are connected to the guard terminal of the meter.

Yes, agree fully, as I mentioned the cases are mostly to keep items together. I've stacked or shelved less often used devices/components in my lab in thin flat rectangular boxes, I find this is faster than rummaging through cabinets. The Merchant cases are a better version of a box.
Frequently used items are all cabled up on the bench ready to roll immediately. My goto LCR meter has been the Agilent 1731B, which is always read to roll but I'll evaluate the DE-5000 to see which of them will be spending more time as a backup stored in the box ;)

I have attached a photo of the DE-5000 LCR Meter with accessories inside the Flambeau case. Everything fits well and there's even room for an AC adapter in the lower right corner if I want to add it later on.

Wonderful! I looks like a OEM factory case  I hate to be lazy :palm:, but what size Flambeau case was this?

I know its been down for a while, but I though I'd share my inputs in case it might be helpful to anyone on the forum.
I was looking for a soft carrying case, similar to what I use for my DMM, something that'll hold the DE-5000 and its leads.
I tried the Fluke carrying case I have for the 189, and the size was just great, it fits nicely inside it, and feels sufficiently protected for me to be happy with it.
Anyway, I looked on ebay, and found a case that looks very similar to the Fluke one, and dimensions seem to be identical as well. So I pulled the trigger, and gave it a try. It arrived a couple of weeks ago, and it does look to be almost identical to the Fluke case. The Fluke logo isn't there, and the yellow color isn't the same shade. The stitching isn't identical either, but overall its close enough. It does feel like it'll last for years. It has the same internal pocket like the Fluke one does, and for 14$ shipped, I'm happy with it :)
I got it here:

But I've seen the same case on AliExpress too.
I've attached a few pictures to this post so you can see how the meter and leads sit inside, and how the case compares to the Fluke one.

The DE-5000 fits well in the Fluke case that came with a Fluke 179 - almost like they were designed for each other; with the TL-21 adapter connected to the DE-5000 it is a bit snug but the case still zips closed without highly stressing anything. I purchased the 179 about 10 years ago but I think the case is a C90; if you find one used it would be a nice case for the DE-5000 but new might be pricey. (A new DE-5000 is a better value than a new C90 ;))

- says 8"x3.5"x2.5" - which is a pretty good size for the DE-5000

Something a little different, I used a case made to hold go-pro cams (was on sale with a coupon code) but seems to work perfect.
The foam was not glued in, so I just pulled it out and put the meter in. http://amzn.com/B00KKDRN0M (http://amzn.com/B00KKDRN0M)

That looks real good with the accessories; if you have more than one adapter (as shown in your photo) it looks like a much better solution than the Fluke case.

Quite some time ago, I had a quote from IET, and the shipping alone to Oz was $145, AND they had the stone soup option, de-5000 + case + option 1 + option 2 + option 3 plus give us your new born child, I found the OEM was in taiwan and asked Franky if he could help, Franky got me everything, tested it and shipped it. Prices have changed a lot since then, BUT if you have something interesting that you are interested in, ask Franky he will give an honest appraisal on the subject. As to a case he may be able to source the original, but it would be at a cost.

I've had a de-5000 with all the options for a while and jsut started to look into case.
Thought id pass this along as it might save some people a few bucks....I found a harbor freight case option.
this is what i am going to get, based on others size choices.
https://www.harborfreight.com/2800-weatherproof-protective-case-13-34-in-63926.html (https://www.harborfreight.com/2800-weatherproof-protective-case-13-34-in-63926.html) (they compare it to the pelican 1400)
the case is 12 in. x 9-1/4 in. x 4 in. and only 30 bucks.. minus an easy to get 20% off coupon should get me down to 24 bucks before taxes.
there's a smaller one that might work if you don't have all the options for 20 bucks
