OSCILLOSCOPE WITH IMPRESSIVE SPECS:
I wanted to share more details about an impressive oscilloscope which I discovered recently.
The company behind this oscilloscope is a subsidiary of a very big state owned company in China which is active in the military industry.
According to the provided PowerPoint presentation they have big customers such as Huawei.

Yes, and it would have to be a VERY cold day "down there" before I'd send $10k off to Alibaba or Globalsources for anything that didn't have soft lips...

Apply the "All Chineses specifications shall be divided by 2" rule of thumb and see if that scope specs are still impressive.

Unless you are Chinese, Iranian, North Korean or Russian, there's no reason why you should be interested in this product.
Go near the right PLA run sites in China and you'll see lots of shady looking Middle Eastern people wandering around. No doubt many are paying really high prices for technology Western countries won't sell them.

We have Iranian students. I have one. And they are really smart and productive.
The one I got was a gift from Trump administration. This poor guy was studying at a top US university, visited home for losing a family member, only to find his visa was forfeited. So we gladly took him.
The people I was referring to are buyers visiting in an endless stream. Not people living in China.

I actually tried that scope on Munich Messe 2 years ago. It was quite impressive, and specs are not fake. But they had zero interest to exporting it at prices that would make it attractive.. Seems that domestic market was enough for them. I had some contact with some Russian companies that had same mentality. Why put additional effort, to make more money when we are making enough already to live comfortably.

Rigol MSO5354 8GSa/s is only $2K, what kind of madness is that? impressive? yes, impressively expensive. certainly paid advert according to my BS detector.
It's most value is it can be manufactured and delivered even if China finds itself in a hot war with the NATO.
500MHz is hardly of any value in NATO's world. and why NATO? not surprising as China already do its trouble to many countries including neighboors <politics sneak in turned off> the dragon can wake but lest not forget the dragon hunters.

Yea uh, Hikvision is the leading supplier because they are quite cheap but good so they hit the sweet spot. But that's all they got going for em. There's plenty of higher end surveillance products that are far more popular when the need arises. On that note, I haven't seen one Hikvision deployment where the IT guys haven't put them behind VLANs and strict firewall rules due to security concerns...about the cameras themselves being malicious ;)
Also their sweet spot with the cameras is real, this oscilloscope is a joke in comparison.

It should be noted that the oscilloscope also comes in a 1 GHz version, for the people who think 500 MHz is underperforming.
The pricing is most likely not accurate, and I am positive that the actual unit can be acquired at a realistic and competitive market price.

For most of the hobbyists the price are much to high.
For companies the question would be: And what about the service..
We bought a lecroy waverunner 9054 (500Mhz, 20GSa/s) with some options included for 12899€ last year directly from lecroy.
I see no advantage in betting on an "unknown" brand with unknown support.

Nahh, relax. These scopes have been discussed several time before. They look mighty interesting based on the specs and I'd like to take one through its pases to see what is what but they are not for sale on the market outside China. In the end its just meh.
