The Brymen 357s clamp meter is obviously not the topseller, which makes me wonder, why on earth do they put the batteries in, without knowing when the dealer will sell it?

Any manual says, that you have to take the batteries out, when not using the device for some time, but Brymen does not stick to it...even the cheapest toy has a plastic strip between the contacts!

I know, that Benning, Gossen Metrawatt, Keysight and Voltcraft put the batteries aside, whereas Fluke and Brymen put them already in - and this is the result:

The package has not been opened before - at least I think so, because of no visible signs:

I have already cleaned the reachable parts, but to do it properly, you should have to open it completely to reach any residue, which is not possible without loosing guarantee - so I will send it back...

Anyone else having this issue? Maybe with other brands?  :(

Sorry about that, hope you get this exchanged for a new one soon.
Just out of curiosity, is there an expiry date on these batteries?

Just a guess here, especially for international shipments:
Maybe some carriers request all batteries to be inside the device when shipping and certain companies don't want to risk it.

For example FedEx states " Make sure batteries contained in an electronic device remain inside the device when shipping"

Any problem is solved: Welectron asked Brymen and since 2020 they don't put the batteries into the devices anymore, unfortunately my Brymen was older than 2020, as a power clamp meter is not a topseller.

As any brand does only use the batteries with the "NOT FOR RETAIL SALE" printing on it, they don't have a date code.

Nevertheless, I sent it back and will save the money for a "Metrahit Energy" - maybe for X-MAS!  :)

You probably just didn't look well enough to find where it is printed. Not for resale batteries which I've seen did have a shelf life printed. But it does not matter much, Almost all of the batteries which leaked in my equipment were within their shelf life. So I just had enough when they leaked in my $500 multimeter for a second time (first time caused ordering a $30 back cover replacement), and I stopped using Alkalines whatsoever and use LSD NiMH instead. Much cheaper that dealing with their leakage consequences in expensive equipment.

Yes, you are right, maybe only some battery-brands such as GP prior to 2020 don't have a date code on it. These Duracell were out of my Benning ST 725 and they have a date code, but at least on my GP-Alcaline batterries there wasn't any - I don't have any further comparison:

But what about sharing a link to your recommended LSD NiMH, as we all suffer from this topic?

Thank you!  :)

I recommend white 2450 mAh IKEA LADDA which are a Japan made Eneloop pro sold at the fraction of cost, if you can find them. Apparently they were discontinued this summer, but in some stores they are still sold. I've read that new grey 1900 mAh AA are made in Japan too, dunno anything about others.
Edit: googled a bit and it seems the grey 2450 mAh are the same Japanese batteries in the sleeve of different color.

GP I've seen had the date printed on the sleeve covering the edge of the butt.

I have to admit, that I only observed the printing, not the metal parts!  ;)

Thanks for the link!  :-+
