Title: SOLVED: Installing DVM file on KeySight DSOX1204G
Post by: PhilB on December 21, 2019, 11:07:46 pm
Has anyone had any issues installing the free DVM license with a 1000X series oscilloscope?

I have a new DSOX104G.  Selecting the DVM option prompts you to go to http://www.keysight.com/find/1000x-series-dvm
 (http://www.keysight.com/find/1000x-series-dvm)

Going there lets you download a file, which is basically plain text/XML.

I copied that to a flash drive, and tried to load it to the oscilloscope.  That results in the error message "Do not know how to load the selected file".

I tried:  Renaming it to DSOX1000.xml.  No go.  Changing the model and serial number in the license file to DSOX1204G and my actual serial number.  No go.

Am I missing an obvious step to install this?

Update:  The file has to be a .dvm extension, and should also download as such now.

Did you try renaming it DSOX1000.lic ?

When I added a license file to my MSOX3000 series a few years back the file had a .lic extension.

Still seems odd that the license file from that download page has a hard coded serial number of US56240016. I assumed that the license file serial number has to match the serial number of the unit it is upgrading for it to work.

Will try that tomorrow when I'm back in the garage. I tried the .txt It downloaded as, .xml, and whatever extension the firmware I discussed to test was.

License files should definitely have a .lic extension.

Well, the .lic extension makes it at least try.  Now it claims it's in invalid license key.  Awesome.

I must say, Keysight's website is horrendous.  I couldn't even register my product.  I was trying to log onto Keysight Care...no go.  Apparently, that's for corporate customers.

Then I just searched for "Register" and clicked on the result for "register your product", and that's a 404.

So I called them.  Turns out I have to register it through Infoline.  But I couldn't add an asset there.  The rep on the phone had to open a ticket with someone else, who ended up doing it the next day.

Very odd.

The key to the problem might be this.  If you go to the URL that the oscilloscope itself tells you to go to:

http://www.keysight.com/find/1000x-series-dvm (http://www.keysight.com/find/1000x-series-dvm)

You see, at the bottom:

"Supported Instruments
DSOX1102A, DSOX1102G, EDUX1002A, EDUX1002G"

It's possible that the 1200X requires a different license, but the firmware in the scope still sends you to an incorrect URL.  Searching for it yields nothing (so far).

The DSOX1204G is Linux based and the supported instruments "DSOX1102A, DSOX1102G, EDUX1002A, EDUX1002G" are Windows CE based.  ;)

Being linux-based was a big selling point for me.

The license file is just XML, so it shouldn't matter. More importantly, the oscilloscope itself tells me to go to that URL and download that file!

That's a fail right there.

I did manage to install the VNC software to control the panel from the webserver, though.

Problem solved.  I called, and the tech support agent tried himself. The file needs a .dvm extension.  The file is correct.

Also, downloading it today does download it with a .dvm extension, so must have been a server glitch a few days ago.
