Title: IRDA heat lamp based soldering/desoldering
Post by: ptricks on September 29, 2017, 12:31:26 pm
I got one of these units off ebay, IRDA T-862++ because I need to remove SOC chips and hot air wasn't doing it for me.
The unit is pretty simple, it pre-heats the board from the bottom , and then uses an IR heat lamp to focus on the chip from the top.
It works fairly well once you get used to it but you really have to know what your safe temp ranges are because you can burn a chip. I ruined a few chips before I got the hang of it.  I have been placing aluminum foil over parts that I don't want to heat and that seems to work ok.

Once pre-heated I can move the light over an area and remove parts in seconds that took me much longer and often with damaged pins.

Internally the unit has  ST arm chip running the temp controls and a couple opamps connected to thermistors for the temperature inputs.
Soldering iron on the unit works ok but that isn't why I purchased.

Anyone else have experience with these units ? Any tips on usage ?  I haven't used it for reflow of a board or more than removing and installing large soc chips.
