| Is it possible to do IQ modulation/demodulation on CMU200 ? |
| (1/1) |
| electronic_guy:
Hi, I have a CMU200 base unit. Is it capable of doing IQ modulation and demodulation? I need to know which boards and software that I need for this. Thank you. |
| G0HZU:
I think you need the option B17 board to be fitted for IQ modulation. This is a large plug in board. Check to see if you already have it fitted. If it isn't fitted, I'm not sure it's worth spending the time and money to get one. The IQ bandwidth is only about 2.5MHz. This is quite low. Maybe watch this youtube video about fitting option B17. I've not watched it, but it probably will be useful to you. There are lots of other options if you want to experiment with IQ modulation. If you want to do modulation and demodulation, then have a look at the various SDR radios available. |

The CMU200 is not a particularly useful tool for doing arbitrary IQ mod/demod. As G0HZU suggested, look into the various SDR platforms such as Pluto SDR or HackRF for this. The software is going to be a bit primitive compared to using dedicated test equipment. You will need to learn GNU Radio to get the most out of these tools. I have an Agilent E4406B with the 89600 VSA software for IQ demod and an HP E4433B for IQ modulation. I still find myself using my Pluto SDR 99% of the time. The only time I use the test equipment is when I need a reference implementation for something I am working on. |
