Title: Is it possible to Label Channels with Rigol oder Siglent Oszilloscopes?
Post by: Coliban on October 28, 2020, 05:43:56 am
Hello,

dont know if this question is adequate because it is about a detail in configuration of the oscilloscope.

I am working with Rohde & Schwarz Oscilloscope and there i can label the channels with appropriate names.

Now i would like to buy a 4 Channel Rigol or Siglent and i investigated the SCPI commands and didn't found a possibility to label the channels.
Is it possible?
Does someone owns on of those brands and could tell?

Regards

I'd think it not only depends on the brand but also the specific model you're considering.
I'm not going to check them all for you but according to their respective user manuals both the Siglent SDS2000X Plus and the Rigol MSO5000 can have their channels labeled using the front panel.

A quick look at the programing manual for the Siglent shows :CHANnel<n>:LABel:TEXT but I couldn't find the equivalent for the Rigol but they do seem to have commands to label Bus-, LA- and Reference traces so I'm surprised there's nothing for normal Channel traces.

Correct, but at this time only 2 Siglent DSO model ranges offer trace labeling, SDS2000X Plus and SDS5000X.

Well sort of but you don't need to use anything but the touch display or a mouse.
The popup virtual keyboard makes labeling traces a breeze and fast.

From a SDS2104X Plus however the SDS5000X range works exactly the same:

Thank you.

But you have not to "check them all for me" because that is the reason i asked if "someone owns one of those devices".
And tautech answered that only  the Siglent "SDS2000X Plus and SDS5000X" could do channel labeling.

If i would get a 2 channel scope, i would pay 1042€ for the Siglent (Siglent SDS2000X Plus). But then i would be financial on the level of Rohde & Schwarz where i pay 1084 for a 2 channel, 70 Mhz, R&S® RTC1K-72. (Ok, not as many feature as the siglent...)

I´ve found another option, the Keysight DSOX1202A costs 796€ and has channel labeling. This is an good alternative. (The 4 channel scope is 1119€).

Have to think about it.

Thank you for your answers

Hello,

It is also possible on the Rigol MSO5000 so you have to think more  ;D

Thank you,
(that is a good advice which my wife say often to me that i have to think more).

But the MSO5000 can´t label the channels with scpi, it is not listed in the scpi commands.
But the other features are quite good.

Sometimes the SCPI commands listed in the manual are incomplete.

It's unusual for any feature not to have SCPI equivalent but I'd want somebody who owns a MSO5000 to check it before making a decision (I don't own one so I cant).

If the Keysight meets your needs then it's a good choice (and cheaper than the Rigol/Siglent options).
