Is there a battery option for the Rigol DHO802 DSO?
(1/1)
Silver_Is_Money:
Is there an internal battery option, or failing that, is there an external battery pack that will meet the need for 12V and 4A? Is the 12V DC or AC?
ebastler:
There is no room for an internal battery. You can connect an external USB-C power bank. The scope will negotiate a 15V supply, not 12V, so 3A is enough. (All DC, of course.)
The DHO800 is not exactly a low-power design. At 45W consumption, typical power banks will only last you between half an hour and an hour.
Silver_Is_Money:
Thank you! To get at least one hour of service from a power bank with the DHO802 how many mAh would a battery bank require? Might I be better served by an OWAN XDS3202E with it's internal battery option? By the time I add the price of a suitable external battery pack to the Rigol it's overall price will be closer to the OWAN with it's internal battery option installed.
ebastler:
As a first approximation, it's 3 Ampere * 1 hour = 3 Ampere hours = 3000 mAh. Multiply by the 15V voltage to convert to 45000 mWh. Then add a 20% margin for conversion losses. And if you buy a no-name power bank from AliExpress or such, add an unknown margin for shameless bragging/lying by the vendor. ;)
I don't know the OWON scope. Just as a general rule of thumb, Rigol, Siglent and GW Instek are considered the better "B brands"; other brands like OWON, Hantek, UNI-T etc. tend to be a tier below in terms of quality, support (firmware updates) etc.
