Both have same issue, once powered on, they start with "LCR Auto" and not showing ESR, but showing something different, and frequency set to 1khz. So each time I power them on, I have to cycle thru the menus/options to change things, which is quite annoying. So I'm looking for a decent, 4 wire LCR meter, which, once being set to measure capacitance at 100hz and ESR, when turned off and back on, remembers this mode and there's no need to change things all the time? Thanks! --- End quote --- BTW just in case you were not aware, the DE-5000 has 4 wire LCR capability. The supplied TL-21 alligator fixture has 4 separate connections if you look inside, we got an "extra" one and reworked it with a cheap set of Kelvin clips so we could have a true 4 wire measurement capability from the DE-5000. Works pretty good!! Edit: Added image. Best, |

Maybe you could hack the serial eeprom chip U3 and change the startup defaults, should be a 24C02 according to Dave's old teardown of the DE-5000. |

If you want 100 kHz, there's the AT826. --- End quote --- Definitely :-+ for the AT826. I bought mine approx. seven years ago, use it moderately frequently and never once got disappointed by it. It "remembers" the configuration that it's been in before powering down, so it performs as you require. Moreover, it's a pretty accurate little instrument. By searching the forum, you'll find some further information on it. It's got the advantage of being programmable via USB so it can be used in automated measurement setups. |

Yes I know that DE-5000 is 4 wire LCR meter (So does Victor 4080), I even have kelvin clips for it, and use them almost all the time. But I really don't like that I have to go thru the bunch of keypresses on each startup. And by the way, it recently started behaving strangely - all capacitors at 10Khz show overrange now, but are OK at 1khz, 100khz, 100hz, or 120 hz :) |
