Is there any test equipment NOT made in China? LOL
« on: June 23, 2019, 08:45:30 pm »
From reading some posts from past years, and doing a little online detective work,I discover:

*Tenma  72-1020= Uni-T  T-804 (even page 9 in the "Tenma" manual shows the "uni-T" logo on the front face.-they thought nobody'd notice!  8) ;D
*B&K Precision 5491B=Tonghui TH1942
*Keysight 34461a is made in Malaysia

*GW Instek's head office is in Taiwan.

I remember an old episode of The Saint TV Series(1962-1969) "The Master Plan",where Burt Kwouk says : "In time China will subjugate the west.It will take time, but it will happen."

Obviously -it did.

So much for patriotism! lol

Anyway, just considering my options.Since I only need a bench dmm for hobbyist and ham radio, might as well just buy something cheap for now like the Tenma 72-1055,or Uni-T,then upgrade later.

I would guess only the really high end stuff is made in the same country the engineers are in. Last I checked LeCroy has a factory somewhere on the east coast.

I wouldn't be surprised if exceptionally high end stuff such as Keysight's UXR oscilloscopes are at least assembled here, as those are not high volume items at all.

The only major Western brand that does not manufacture in China is Keysight. Almost all of their own (non-OEM) products are made in Malaysia, and some of the rest are made in US.

Keysight 1000x series oscilloscopes are made in China.

Rest of some very high end units (double digit GHz scopes, triple GHz VNA/SAs, 8.5+ digit meters), no major (high volume) test gears are made in the West at all.
R&S assembles their equipment in Europe. For some types of cheaper equipment they have to cut some corners on the mechanical side (like not bolting BNCs to the chassis) in order to reduce assembly time.
There are small lies, big lies and then there is what is on the screen of your oscilloscope.

Malaysia is no China :palm: even though we have chinese citizens migrating due to colonial pre-independence age. If its based on race of citizens, we are also India  ???
