Is there someone with an Extech MN16 out there?
« on: December 12, 2013, 05:22:58 pm »
Hi there,

it's christmas time and that means it is time for wishlists. A 50€-class DMM is what is going on that list. While searching german stores the Extech MN16 was the best fit to my needs for a reasonable price. Multimeters seem to be extremely pricey here in Germany
The searchfunction did not give good hints and the meter does not appear in the good DMM/ bad DMM lists. So is there anyone out there who has used such a unit and can tell me if it is worth it's money?

Cheers,
Jan

I have no experience with that model but I have to tell you I am biased against Extech EX series. This MN series appears to be from a different OEM perhaps but it still looks like a CEM produced model to me.

If you are open to other meters there are others within your price range worth considering:
Digitek DT2843R, has TRMS AC+DC and has all the functions of the model you are looking for, $44 USD shipped worldwide by our trusted friend here, iloveelectronics,
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Digitek-DT-2843R-AC-DC-True-RMS-Multimeter-Backlight-and-Temperature-/171080136251?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item27d52bb63b

or he has the Uni-T UT61E for around $58 shipped worldwide, less if you contact him directly here outside of ebay:
No back light, no temperature

or there is an Amprobe AM-520 from tme.eu for around 42€ plus VAT and shipping:
http://www.tme.eu/en/details/am-520-eur/portable-digital-multimeters/amprobe/#

or Dave has liked the Extech EX-330 for around 43€ plus VAT and shipping:
http://www.tme.eu/en/details/ex330/portable-digital-multimeters/extech/#

or the Brymen BM-806 for around 53€ plus VAT and shipping:
http://www.tme.eu/en/details/bm806t/portable-digital-multimeters/brymen/#

I hope you find these other options interesting.

Yeah, I saw you disliked the EX series when I searched the forums. But nowhere any word on the MN. Also there seems to be very little talk about it on the web.

Anyway - non-german shops and ebay are out as I want to throw that thing at them if it fails and because my dad has to buy it. Wouldn't want him to order anything on the web!  :palm:

Maybe I just take this unit and TAKE IT APAAAAAART. Could be interesting for everyone here?

OK, if Santa brings the right items, I will open 'em up for all to see.

I also have a Tenma 72-2050. Are you interested in that, too? Nothing new (got it in my toolbox for my apprenticeship from my employer back in 2005), I don't even know if it is still sold. But I might do a few Inside-shots.
