ISKRA RESITIVE DECADE MA 2115 - Is it worth?
« on: December 20, 2022, 04:40:05 pm »
Hello Mates,

I've been looking for a resistive decade for a while and I've came across a Iskra MA 2115 for 150USD, is it worth?

Greetings!

It's nice, but it depends on your use case if it is worth it.

Most people use a substitute resistor to put in circuit then dial in the value that works best, then specify an off the self resistor that gets the job done.  If this is your use case and you have a really good DMM, then it's probably not worth it.  Something like this:

Might even work better.

It is a good quality resistor substitution box. Not a precision decade..
Still being made...

Old and used 25-50 USD would be more realistic..

As generic terms, a "substitution box" contains a wide range of component values with reasonable tolerances.
Such a box is useful when you don't know the appropriate value to use in a circuit and want to check over a wide range.
A "decade box" contains tight-tolerance components arranged with decade switches, suitable for precision measurements or calibrations.
A good decade box will be much more expensive than a substitution box.
Both types are commonly available with either resistors or capacitors, less common for inductors.
