« on: August 30, 2023, 06:14:19 pm »
I've accidentally bricked my DS1074Z, is there any ways to unbrick it? I have tried flashing firmware from usb stick, but it would not boot up.

Can you explain what you did to get here first, then explain what you have done since it went Dark on you. This helps us help you.

Have you done any research on the device ? I find this always helps before asking Q's as often "we" dont know the history but you do  so we wont know you tried " 1074z to 1084z upgrade for free" or what not , just being general there but i hope you see my point.

I totally understand if it your first tech device for study and something went wrong and you now in panic mode, first thing is to check is receipt to see if you can send it back :-P

So, all started when ds1074Z at one day would not boot up and instead starts beeping and flashing all leds. I've tried to reset it by pressing fifth grey button on the left of the screen at the boot time, this helped and i continued to use the scope. This time it did it again, but the scope would not reset. i've tried several time without success. Then i decided to reflash the firmware at boot time by inserting 4gig fat32 flash drive with firmware from rigol's site and pressing help button 3 times after beep at boot time. The CH 1 button on the oscilloscope starts blinking and after some time stops, all buttons light up for a second, but boot logo wont go away and nothing happened.I have tried flashing several times without any success. :(

Try a few different flash drives. It's very common that oscilloscopes and similar devices are very finnicky and fail to update from particular flash. Almost 50/50 chance that drive won't work at all or update will fail in my experience.

Flash drive that I'm using previously worked, i was able to save screenshots and waveforms to it, but i will definitely try different one.

The fact that drive worked for saving images means nothing as in this case it's accessed by bootloader instead of OS.

That means the oscilloscope was unstable/defective before the FW upgrade, then it crashed again during the update, letting it in an unknown state both in hardware and in software.

You should have fixed the hardware first.

Try making a Rigol signed disk like described here (only the last paragraphs at the end, with the instructions written as code, the attached Rigol_sign_disk.zip is right after):
https://www.eevblog.com/forum/testgear/new-rigol-ds1054z-oscilloscope/msg3613778/#msg3613778
then try to upload the firmware again.  I would try first to re-upload the firmware that worked last time, when it started to became unstable, then if this succeed, fix the hardware defect, then upgrade to the latest FW.

If still under warranty, don't bother trying to fix anything, send it to service and describe what happened.

I have tried several other flash drives, but none have worked. Is there a way to flash it thru some JTAG or something similar?

I would guess that, as long as you have a working bootloader, you should have the possibility of flashing via the UART. If the bootloader is ruined, then only a external programming. JTAG would be pro stuff.

Is there any information about flashing it via UART?
