Title: Iwatsu SS-7811P vs Hantek DSO5102P
Post by: bsbnewbie on September 14, 2015, 12:01:22 pm
Hello,

I am just starting in electronics and looking for an oscilloscope. I have got two options which are roughly in the same price.

option 1 - new model Hantek DSO5102P. This is from aliexpress.
option 2 - reconditioned unit Iwatsu SS-7811P from local company.

Which one I should go for? Thanks!

Definitely the Hantek. The Iwatsu is a >20yr old tripple channel analog scope with digital readouts, and while back in the days these were great scopes these days you'd be buying a boat anchor with very little capabilities and which (due to its age) is very likely close to the end of its service life. The Hantek is a modern 2 channel low-end scope but it has decent specs, comes with storage and some decent measurement capabilities, and makes a much better starter scope than the Iwatsu.
