JBC 2010 cartridge availability?
« on: August 16, 2014, 11:46:38 am »
I have recently acquired a JBC Advanced AD 2000 soldering station. I believe it was junked as it is a discontinued model.

Does anyone know of a source of original or compatible cartridges (tips) for the 2010 handpiece? It currently has a 2010-001 tip which is on the way out.

Thanks in advance.

2210 and C210 cartridges are compatible, so units like the JBC AD 2700 can use current C210 cartridges with it's original  2210 handpiece, but it looks like the 2010 handpiece compatibility wasn't carried forward, dropped.  Only recourse would probably be diminishing old stock on Ebay.

Thanks staxquad. Searches on Ebay have been fruitless so far, so I turned here.
I will keep looking.

The 2010 are out of production for several years now. Don't know if someone still has cartridges on stock. The nice thing about them was that the whole handpiece was shorter and lighter than the new C210 (was called 2210 when it came out).

I remember that there was a hack available, modifying the wiring in the AD2000 station. With it you could connect C210 and C245 handpieces and their cartridges. But unfortunately I don't have the docs anymore which wires...

Thanks electronic_eel. I hope that this hack comes to light as the 2210 handpiece is reasonably priced.

I hope someone would have information about this mod because I just broke my last and only JBC AD2000 2010 cartridge. I happen to own a newer C245 handle but when I plug it into the station it only gets moderately warm and doesn't melt solder. Maybe there isn't temperature feedback from the soldering tip to the station?

If there's no feedback how does the station know when to stop supplying power when the temperature is up.

There's a thermocouple in the tip and a heater with a common connection (three pin cartridges). With two pin cartridges the thermocouple and heater a wired in series afaik.

Hi to all!

I own a great JBC AD2000 solder station, I have two old handpiece but as you probably know, there are no more spare cartdriges available, so when I will broke all my spares, there is no possibility to use this great station anymore. I know that a german guy https://www.mikrocontroller.net/topic/254049 modified the AD 2000 to use the newer T245 handpiece with a selector.  Of course I tried to contact that german guy but maybe he don't read that forum anymore.

I ask you if someone know how to do the modify it since I bought also a T245 handpiece with both C245 and C470 cartdriges.

Consider that if I plug the T245 into the station it only gets moderately warm and doesn't melt solder, I think that maybe only two wires of the thermocouple must be inverted but I want to know that for sure in order to not destroy anything.

Thank you in advance!

I have the opposite problem.
I have a ton of two pin JBC cartridges, both 2010 and 2045 sizes, but no compatible station or iron.
I would love to find an AD2000 station with handle in the US...

I bought the following tips via this forum last year.
I overlooked the fact that they are for the older handles only.

for 2045:
003x3
005x5
007x2
012x19
017x1
019x2
020x1
026x2
031x2
032x7
033x1
036x5

for 2010:
001x2
002x12
003x4
007x1
008x1
009x16

They are now in the US...
Not really interested in selling them one by one.
Minimum buy would be 6 pieces for $50.
Alternatively the whole lot can be had for $300.
Shipping at cost.

I'd still love to try this modification if anyone can dig out any further details please!

Do you still have any of the 2045 cartridges left?  i'm interested in them (all of them) if you have any left ;D

Hi everyone,

Last week i've found and bought an old jbc ad 2000 soldering station. I've tried to use a T245 type handle, i've had the same problem as mentioned above, at 350 degrees (C) setting tip temperature was only about 200 degrees.

I've opened it up, checked the pcb, i've found out that the controller chip was actually a 28 pin pic mcu.

When i followed the the track from positive thermocouple pin of the handle on pcb, i've found the thermocouple amplifier (op07) The positive feedback resistor (at the left) of it was 1M Ohm. Amplified output was connected to one of pic mcu's adc channels.

I've attached a k-type temperature tester to tip of the iron, powered the station, at max setting tip temp was 190 degrees (C), TC amp->pic adc input voltage was 4,5V Dc.

I've paralled the feedback resistor with 1Meg resistor. With new feedback ratio, at maximum setting  tip temperature was 350 degrees.

That was my quick and painless solution, i hope if someone  still (or will) have the same problem uses it.

Thank you very much indeed leFonque! Despite now owning a CD-2BQF, I  still use my AD 2000 for most day-to-day soldering tasks and have recently damaged my 2010-001 tip (yes, the one I mentioned 8 years ago... It hasn't had much use by me until last year).

I'd love to try a T210 with this station... So the only modification reuired to make the T245 work was the change of feedback resistor to 500k, right?

Thank you.

You're welcome Sir. I hope you'll try and succeed. At the attached image you may see the temp. measurement. The tip is genuine Jbc c245-903, handle is a cheap one from China which i bought online, it has the basic 3 cable connection.
I think t210 tips' thermocouple response won't be totally different from t245s, maybe you'll have to try some minor resistance value changes, so it's alright to give it a try.

My regards

Wow! Founded this very old topic, yesterday I tried the parallel resistor, it worked for me with a 560kohm resistor!!!! I put a switch so I can use both old and new handpieces!!! I love my AD 2000, it is simply the best! P.S. I also own the new JBC devices.
