JTAG Probes and Cell phone flash/unlock boxes
« on: June 06, 2014, 02:47:44 am »
I was looking for some documentation on cell phone that I found in my junk box and then I found this whole world of "cell phone flash/unlock boxes". Here for example: http://gsmserver.com/software/software.php and looking at their capabilities I see that many support JTAG programming and NAND flash reprogramming etc. Like this one http://gsmserver.com/shop/gsm/riff_box_jtag.php.

Does anyone know what are these and how do they work? Are these just cheap, rebranded JTAG probes inside like J-link for example? Given that some have prices from $50 to $120 while J-link (also USB version) is around $500 it could be a nice deal.  They all seem to come with specialized software designed for specific phones so I am not sure if any generic dev tools Keil would recognize them. J-link probably higher quality tool anyway but I am still curious.
