Juntek JDS6600 signal generator
« on: November 09, 2022, 01:51:28 pm »
I've put some time over the last few days writing a control program for this to run under Linux, output functions are now OK although I've yet to do a waveform editor.

I cannot get it to either measure or count the signal on the "Ext. IN" connector. I sometimes see the counter flickering between 0 and 1, but it refuses to make any effort to go beyond that or report voltages etc.

Has anybody actually got this working reliably, and if so what "special magic" is involved?

I know that various people have reported failures on the output channels, but fortunately those appear OK since they're what I actually want (subject obviously to the capabilities of an instrument this cheap).

Answering my own question: you need a separate signal source (don't expect to be able to use one of the instrument's own outputs) and this needs to have an adequate voltage swing (an Arduino is fine, a 'scope's 1V calibration signal isn't).

I hope to have Linux console and GUI (GTK2) programs on Github in a few days time.

I'v made GPSDO for this generator and testing it.
Since we have no access to "magic" tuning menu to eliminate internal offset of manufacturer it is needed to fine "tune" 24.0MHz reference.

Thanks for letting us know what you were doing, it's always interesting.

I got as far as having software control of sweep+pulse so that a scope could get a reference. That was useful to allow me to tune a ferrite frontend, but I didn't get much more work done on the software, in particular no waveform editor.
