Keithley 199 scanner cable
« on: August 24, 2021, 10:26:28 pm »
Evening all .
I have a pair of keithley 199 DMMs with scanner card and I was looking for the cable to make use of the scanner functionality, I know the cable is listed as model 1993 but the last time I saw one for sale it was going for $90 and I wondered if diy would be cheaper since 2 of those cables are required to use all the inputs.
I'm guessing the connection to be some Phoenix Contact variant but which one ? Anybody out there know which connector would fit , or if you have the original could you post some photos to get a better idea of what I should be lookin for. Thanks in advance,

Regards

I looked at my 199s and neither had the Keithley connectors in them (I have them somewhere). One had a 3 terminal connector in it that is the correct mating connector so I took pictures. The Keithley connectors are the same but 10 terminal, and they have a tongue to make it easy to pull out. With this little 3 terminal connector, I had to reach my fingers in the slot to get it out. Pitch seems to measure 5mm. Markings on this connector are:
PTR
>PA6.6<
AK 950
I got my Keithleys many years ago, and I have no idea where I got this other little connector. If I run across the Keithley connectors I'll post a picture, but the type I show here mates correctly with the meter.

This is the connector that came with mine:
These are Phoenix Contact MSTB2.5 series which is fairly readily available in the standard version without the handle. The version with the attached handle is probably more difficult to source.

Carefully check the pin spacing when you order these. I ordered 0.2in (5.08mm) spacing parts expecting inch dimension parts on an older, US designed, piece of equipment. Unfortunately, they didn't fit my 199 scanner as Keithley had inexplicably chosen hard metric (5.00mm) connectors just for for the scanner connectors.

You're a star . I haven't been able to find the model 1993 and the prices for similar keithley cables are depressingly large . The phoenix contacts connectors being roughly an order of magnitude lower in price has brightened my day . Shame having the cards with no way to use them , now I can without breaking the bank and my GPIB card and cables can live again too .

Many , many thanks

and the very best of regards ,

Shedworx.

Just a correction to prevent others for ordering the wrong parts. Most of these connector are offered in a 5.08mm (2x 0.1inch) spacing / pitch on AliExpress and so on, which do not fit !

The connector is a Phoenix MST1.5 series with 5.0mm spacing. Since these are no longer produced, a MST2.5 would fit as well but but is designed for thicker cables. A suitable replacement is this one: https://www.farnell.com/datasheets/2327217.pdf

Also Camdenboss CTB9202/10 should fit as well: https://www.camdenboss.com/products/datasheet/CTB9202_series_D.pdf

I found some 2 pin similar non-Phoenix contacts with 5.0mm spacing which fitted nicely as well.
