| Keithley DMM6500 transformer: RFC around recall experience, and a dilemma |
| << < (4/5) > >> |
| Kleinstein:
If the specs are not known, it would be relatively easy to measure the required specs (voltage and VA rating - the primary voltage is obvious). The VA rating is anyway approximate and not a brick wall. A point is that the transformer should include shields (one on each side - though they may have cheaped out with a single shield) and ideally an extra degree of isolation from the primary to scondaray. So it is not a normal transformer. Nothing very high tech, but off the normal path and may need extra communication and this could make it tricky in China. For some reason they use 2 transformers - which may be due to space constraints. AFAIK quite some of the power is there for a potential extension / relay card and not just the plain DMM. |

I have experience of ordering a special, medical grade transformer manufacturing in China. Nothing special, quite solvable even with google translate...... |
| arcitech:
Signal Transformer communications indicate the design is behind NDA and can't share the specs. They also abstained from confirming whether any absence or presence of a safety issue is known with these early, apparently problematic, units. |

Well, unless it is heavily potted, it is quite possible to unwind each winding, measure number of turns and wire diameter, along with cross section of steel :D |
| mawyatt:
If nothing else works, consider removing the transformer and dipping it in potting compound a few times to hopefully subdue the vibrations. Start off with a highly thinned compound to allow it to wick into the windings, then thicker compound to cover and add mass, and so on. Good luck, Best, |
