Title: Keithley dmm7510
Post by: WVL_KsZeN on January 18, 2015, 04:50:22 pm
Browsing the internet I stumbled upon the Keithley dmm7510 : https://www.conrad.nl/nl/keithley-bench-multimeter-digitaal-weergave-counts-7500-1303068.html (https://www.conrad.nl/nl/keithley-bench-multimeter-digitaal-weergave-counts-7500-1303068.html) . There's no mention of it anywhere on Keithleys website, yet here it is. Conrad even claims they have stock!

What does everyone think about this one? It's almost 4000 euro and 7.5 digits.

Robrenz's new dream machine?

Looks great!  I think that Conrad jumped the gun on this and made some mistakes.  This document:  http://www.produktinfo.conrad.com/datenblaetter/1300000-1399999/001303068-in-01-en-DISTRIBUTOR_EXECUTIVE_PRESENTATION.pdf (http://www.produktinfo.conrad.com/datenblaetter/1300000-1399999/001303068-in-01-en-DISTRIBUTOR_EXECUTIVE_PRESENTATION.pdf)

says that it's not available for sale until Jan 19.  Also the list price is $3990US so somewhat less but still very expensive.

I love that it has great accuracy, range, speed and no options (everything is built in).  I'm bummed that it has a continuously running (probably noisy) fan.  I'll bet that Shahriar and/or Robrenz has one of these already and is working on a review, I'll wait for that......

I have been saying on the forum that something like this was coming :-+ . I have already volunteered previously to do a review but Shahriar is obviously more qualified than I am.

Yes, you have!  They seem to be using the new design for their entire line of test equipment.

Does this imply that you do have one of these or at least are planning on buying one soon?  Either way, I for one would appreciate your review!  Even if Shahriar is more qualified than most people here it's nice to hear other people's findings/feelings about equipment.

I would have to have one donated to do a review because that is way out of my hobby budget :'(

There's a 1000 page user manual for this on Keithley's website too.  This is one incredibly complicated DMM to require a manual of that size.  To be fair much of the manual is a programming reference guide, it has LUA built in for scripting.   I don't think I've ever read a DMM manual that talks about garbage collecting :)

Keithley just sent me an email advertising this, so they seem to be doing a marketing push.

http://info.tek.com/keithley-dmm7510.html (http://info.tek.com/keithley-dmm7510.html)

It has not made it onto the TTi (Tektronix agents in the UK) yet.

Nice, not every day there is new 7.5d DMM on market  :-+

Specs pretty interesting, for DC currents accuracy is even better than 8.5d Model 2002.

Would be cool to see someone do some testing with this meter.

Thank you, I am sure you would do a fine job. I have a few reviews and so many tutorials I want to do, just not enough time. :) I'll do my best.

"The Art of Electronics" is 1000 pages. It is hard to imagine a DMM being so complex that it needs that level of documentation. The Agisight 34461A manual is huge at ~350 pages. I guess one extra digit needs a LOT of explaining  :-DD

I like Keithley, but when I pay 4000 Euro (2 months of my loan) for a instrument I don`t want a plastic box like that made in China.
If they need only 100$ more to use the money for a high quality metal case and a plugin for the input it will be the best of the world...

My Keithley is from Ebay, I payed 75 Euro for the instrument. Metal Case, old beauty (bec. its made ba DANA)   :) 0,002% may be enough for the hobby

Two words....

FLUX   -   CAPACITOR

I am sure time travel is old hat for you by now. 1.21 Jiggawatts can be sourced from a bank of modern super-caps in a charge pump configuration. No need for plutonium anymore, that was totally 1985.

The case is the same as the 2450 SMU which is a very robust 16ga steel with full lap seam tube.  nothing cheap about the construction of these units.

There is two new videos on YouTube of the DMM7510, the first one is pretty good:

It lacks proper binding posts. :palm: I don't need or want safety nanny jacks on a 7.5 digit meter.

Lack of haptic feedback and finger smudges on the screen also a step backward in usability, although graphic display 2 steps forward, damm.

The features on this instrument are neat-o and flashy, but really not sure they will contribute to an engineer being able to design faster and/or better. The graphical functions could be handy, but a proper oscilloscope is the more appropriate tool. Has anyone seen any features in this instrument that will get you somewhere that a plain old DMM just could not do?

It sure makes a dull bench look cool though.

I just got notified that I will get a DMM7510 and a Model 2280S-60-3 Precision Measurement DC Power Supply donated to my blog for review. As soon as they arrive I'll make videos on them.

So my 3 year old logistics manager informed me that the Keithley DMM7510 arrived, finally! I'll play with it for a bit and once I've got a good idea of what I think about it, I'll review it. Stay tuned!

Yes, take it apart! I would love to see the inside. I had some Keithleys in for repair, and the quality is astonishing.

DMM7510 has unique features, in particular extremely low noise on 100mV and 1V DCV scale. However, on 10V DCV scale it is not as good as competing DMMs.  There is detailed discussion and comparison here https://www.eevblog.com/forum/metrology/dmm-adc-noise-comparison-testing-project/ (https://www.eevblog.com/forum/metrology/dmm-adc-noise-comparison-testing-project/)
