Title: Keysight 34461A capacitance
Post by: KenGaler on May 11, 2015, 01:28:12 pm
Hi all,

Just a FYI because I haven't noticed it mentioned here.  I just got a 34461A and it now has a capacitance mode.  Not as real requirement but it could come in handy.

Ken

It was added with latest firmware. All older meters get it too with firmware update , just lack capacitance label on the front panel.

Thanks - didn't know that - maybe they should show a splash screen the first time you power up to tell you about new features...

I found an easy way to add the Capacitor Symbol.
Just use something that is called "Abreibebuchstaben" in German.
I have no idea what the English name is for these

And with a few lines you can make it look really professional

Letraset transfers - do they even still make these ?
I used a fine pencil.

Most companies that used to have them, do not carry them anymore.
There is one company left in Germany that sells them locally, where I live, all shapes and sizes and forms.

Thanks for that name "Letraset transfers"
Is there a meaning behind "Letraset" in the English language or was it a company name / trade name that brought it to market.

I am traveling right now, will take a picture of my 34461A with the added capacitor symbol, when I am back.

Letraset is a brand name,  I don't know if anyone else made them but it became a generic name for any rub-down transfer.
At one time  similar transfers were a popular way to make PCB artwork, either as photographic or direct onto the PCB copper.

There was also Mecanorma, which was a French brand.
I remember making my first PCB using these ...

Nostalgia ?

Apparently you can still get them - wonder if they sell any these days...

The release notes also mention "Limited secondary measurements"
Looking at the manual it shows things like DCV+ACV, ACV+frequency, temperature+resistance

I don't recall how much of this is new - did it do any secondary measurements before?

I thought that was new also but wasn't sure.

secondary measurements came only with FW update 2.08
