Keysight DSOS204A waveform update rate

Yesterday, inspired by Tek2 talking I made a test with still new to me Keysight DSO-S.
I donno, maybe doing something wrong, but in Real-time mode I was getting like 700Hz comming out from triggered Out.
In segmented mode it went up to 300kHz.
Where did I go wrong?

Probably nothing wrong, those values are pretty normal for a software renderer, and dumping segments to memory without drawing them respectively. Usual questions, what was the timebase, memory depth, and test stimulus?

Waveform update rate is very controversial spec.

Using long persistence , very short timebase and a scope that has fast retrigger time is an old technique, dating back to analog persistence scopes.
It can detect there is something wrong, and give you clue as to pulse width, rise time or amplitude anomaly in a standardized pulse train (clock or comm channel). You let it run, and com back after few hours, and if there is problem you will see something on the screen.
That works but is not useful to figure out when anomaly happened, how often it is or even how it correlates with other parts of  the system.
So even if you have very fast retrigger rate, it won't speed up the process of actually researching the problem. It will only clue you in how to proceed. So you have to use clues to setup triggers to catch for runts, non monotonic edges, timing violations.. Your time spent will be dominated with this manual process...

Clue in long memory scope with tools, like eye diagrams, exclusion triggers etc.
Instead of capturing 100ns 10000 times randomly, you capture 200ms (0.2 sec) of data in one go and then unleash software search to search for all and any anomalies inside. With 100% detection rate for multiple anomalies simultaneously. With correlation to outside world, where you can directly correlate that glitch in clock happens exactly at the same time that output relay activates...

A good engineer can solve problems in any number of ways... and will adapt to use what he/she has..
