Keysight DSOX1102G System Concerns Detected...
« on: April 02, 2019, 10:44:43 pm »
Hi Everyone,
I just received a used Keysight DSOX1102G purchased from our favorite used test equipment auction website. The scope seems to work just fine but the first message on the screen after it boots is, "System concerns detected: OS version is not correct. Please reload system firmware." I tried a search on this and nothing came up. If anyone is familiar what is causing this or if it is any concern, I'd love to hear your thoughts!
Thanks!
Adam

I assume the firmware has been hacked to enable options.

The traditional 2000X/3000X series hack never worked on the 1000X series, so it is strange seeing that message.  The only SW hack is the one from FERCSA but it does not show any warning message.

I don't think it is a hacked scope, because all the options (MASK, SGM, EDK, WAVEGEN, DMV, RML) are standard for the DSOX1102G and I don't see the serial decode options which is the only option that can be purchased on this scope (except for the BW upgrades).  The only option that is not standard is BW10 (100MHz upgrade) and you might lose it if you install the original firmware from Keysight.

I believe there are other hacks for the scope, not just the one posted here.
The way to find out is to reinstall the firmware - but if there were hacks they will be lost.

If I were you, I would reload the firmware and restore it to a stable state instead of inheriting unknown hack from previous owner.  That way you are starting from a clean known slate.  Much like changing the oil right after you get a used car.

Reinstalling the firmware may not fix it if strapping resistors were changed.

The resistor configuration hack works with the original Keysight firmware

Thanks for everyone's input. Also, good call on it being hacked previously. I'm not sure if it was originally a 70MHz or 100MHz scope. I went ahead and performed a bunch of tests and everything seems to work fine so I guess I'll just leave it alone unless there is a good reason to upgrade the firmware. I was mainly concerned that there was a problem that would cause the scope to not work correctly. So far so good!
Thanks again!

I suspect that if you are getting a trace/capture that looks ok you're probably good to go. However, if it's under warranty and not hacked you could contact your local support center and see what they say?

My inclination would say that if it's not broke, don't fix it!!
