Title: Keysight U1273AX's oled screen
Post by: DiddlyJackSquat on April 18, 2018, 05:34:21 pm
Keysight or should I say... Agilent U1273AX is possibly the best meter I will ever have, it works in the ludicrously cold weather and has an awesome bluetooth feature but

what's the point when it's rendered useless after a few years of hardly touching it

I'm not sure.  :o
(Yes I have tried to get spare parts to no avail. This is on full brightness and there are just a few bright spots on the screen and even so they're very dim  :-BROKE)

Less than 3 years old?  Did you send it in for warranty?  Did you call and ask
them if they will fix it anyway?

Nope it's more than 3 years old but... you would expect a DMM to last a long time right?

I tried to ask if they would fix it but they said no. I asked if i could get parts and they said no either  :(

Is every pixel that dim?
Or are just the main pixels worn out?

If everything is very dim, there might be a problem with the driving circuit. The display itself may be fine.

Greetings

As far as I know a common problem of Agilent meters. I was in doubt back then if I would buy an oled or LCD version. I bought the LCD. After many years the stand was dead, the display scratched  and it looked worn. A friend gave me one with a worn Oled ( U1254) and I used the cabinet for my Agilent U1253, now it looks like new again.

It is a shame for a meter at this price,  these displays wear this fast.

Some pixels are just a tad brighter, still VERY dim. It was going bad after time and I hardly used it in case I broke the oled display. What does that say about my faith in the product  :-//
I use my UT61E way more than I do the U1273AX

All I want is agilent to tell me I can fit U1272 LCD display on it... Letting a expensive DMM go to waste because of a unreadable display is nuts :scared:

welcome to oled hell. display degradation is a fundamental limitation of the technology. doesn't matter who uses it.

best to avoid all oled unless you plan to dispose of it every few years and buy a new one like a cellphone.

The normal LCD of a U1272A probably wont work since the oled is a graphic display and the 1272A has a segmented LCD.
But there may be a standard (backlit) graphic LCD with the same resolution and interface as the oled. The chances are probably almost zero and it would involve some serious modding and hacking.

I'm not even seeing an available P/N for the LCD display.

You cannot fit LCD there. And there is a thread on the forum about compatible OLED displays.

Sure, with fluke you'll get fading digits http://mrmodemhead.com/blog/fluke-8x-faded-lcd/ (http://mrmodemhead.com/blog/fluke-8x-faded-lcd/)
As of OLED, they don't offer any.

There are many documented simple cheap/free fixes for fading digits on Flukes

Solution: Remove 25-year old LCD, wipe the contacts, put it back.

As of OLED, they don't offer any.
1) Remove 5-year old OLED
2) ...?

Display itself is the same. It is tab soldered, so not that easy to replace. Cheapest option seem to be taobao, and don't need desoldering from the PCB as it has just bare FPC. <10% of the new meter price is not that expensive IMO.

It's still damn freaking expensive however. In the U1273ax case it has pins going off to the driver board

You'll need to solder either way. You won't get a display with proper board.
