Last question about DER DE-5000: Any USA import fees?
« on: June 23, 2014, 08:56:36 pm »
I want to order one of the DER DE-5000 kits from a ebay vendor in Japan. I live in U.S.A.

I'm wondering; Are there any surprise import fee charges when the package arrives?

Thank You.

None for me - you should be fine. It's only a $120 or so device...

I guess you haven't ordered much from asia eh?

cheers,
george.

Same here, Chinese orders usually get past customs but shipments from usa are always stuck at customs even if the value would be below the limits.
Probably at least 2 reasons:
1. people order huge quantities of cheap chinese crap and customs are overloaded with it
2. shipments from US are more valuable and more often above the 20eur "taxfree limit"

In the UK I had to pay import duty when importing my DER DE-5000 from Japan, it was not much (£12 I think) but the slightly annoying thing was having to pay it on the total cost including the postage.

Still, nothing like as annoying as paying VAT on fuel where the government charges us tax (VAT) on the tax (fuel duty) that they have already charged us!

I also purchased a Der De-5000 and there was no import fee.  I believe the price was $120 USD with the adapters and shipping added on to that.
