I would have thought that the reflective layer is built into the rear polarizer, so maybe search for 'LCD reflective polarizer'?

Any links for a semi-transparent version, usefull if you want to add backlighting to a LCD that wasn't backlit from scratch?

Irrc, the magic word used to be 'transflective'. I don't know if it still is.

I've used 'Aluminum Foil Tape' in the past with good results. Managed to find it in 8 inch widths. Used in sealing HVAC ducts.

Silver reflective Polyester / Mylar tape seems quite common on ebay.

P.S. I don't know whether the adhesive would be sufficient to give the desirable matt finish.

You seem desperate and none of the suggestions seem to have helped.  Have you considered checking out "window tinting + silver". Lots of hits, some call it security tinting.  Even Amazzon sells it: https://www.amazon.com/s?k=silver+window+film&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI7_bSvNH3_AIV3DizAB1h1A3cEAAYAyAAEgLj6vD_BwE&hvadid=174266262177&hvdev=c&hvlocphy=9015589&hvnetw=g&hvqmt=e&hvrand=2855478611731995545&hvtargid=kwd-253406574&hydadcr=8434_9618941&tag=googhydr-20&ref=pd_sl_82oexfuudb_e

As a last resort, mirrors are silvered (front or back surface) with Tollens reagent.  It's ancient technology and works well.  The only expensive reagent you need is silver nitrate.  Scan down to "in silver mirroring:" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tollens%27_reagent
