LeCroy Arbstudio AWG digital pod?
« on: May 15, 2023, 07:18:28 pm »
Does anyone have experience with installing USB drivers for Lecroy Arbstudio USB AWG generator? I have what looks like the original CD that came with it with setup.exe dated 4/7/2010. But when I try to install, it says "you have to run the 64-bit version of dpinst.exe on this machine" and it doesn't install USB drivers. I tried to contact Lecroy, but they haven't responded. Is there maybe a newer version of the software?

Is there a 64 bit installer on the CD as well?  With a 2010 date I would expect both would be available.

That said, if LeCroy doesn't get back to you and there's nothing else on the disk, you could try making a VM of a 32 bit OS (maybe XP), then passing the VM the USB connection and installing the drivers in the VM.  Not the most elegant workaround in terms of workflow, but it's worked surprisingly well for me when interfacing with older equipment that communicates through standard busses (USB, serial, ethernet, etc.)

Thanks for the suggestions. I've also read that one can temporary disable windows driver signing and then it might be possible to install the driver. Luckily I didn't have to go that route. I never heard from Lecroy, but I contacted Active Technologies, the Italian company that made these AWG for Lecroy. They replied right away and were nice enough to add my serial number so I can download their driver. Still one needs to register to download, but it seems to work fine.

I got the AWG to work, now trying to figure out how to use the digital outputs. Apparently it needs a custom breakout digital pod. Does anyone have one of these, I am curious what is inside?
