Help with decision: Siglent SDS2352X-E vs. Rigol DS2302A
« on: September 21, 2019, 04:36:06 pm »
Sorry for the n-th thread of a similar kind, but after reading through a lot of stuff here and elsewhere I am still undecided and hope for a little input:

I need to buy a new scope soon. The price must meet a maximum of 800 EUR before VAT (hard limit, need to tax-deduct it fully this year).

I have narrowed it down to SDS2352X-E and DS2302A, because I'd like something with that bandwidth, I am doing more and more microcontroller stuff (STM32F7xx) with higher external clock rates and my old 20MHz analog scope is becoming pretty useless, and >=300MHz should allow some judgement on signal shape/integrity of 50 MHz signals. The two models seem to be the only ones that fit my budget here (4 channels would be nice, but I'd rather have bandwidth than channels, and if I ever need to troubleshoot something slower withore channels needed I can still get an additional 50MHz 4 channel scope).

Rigol pros:
More sample memory (56 Mpts with free upgrade)
Bigger screen
Dedicated controls for each channel
12-bit at slower time-bases (is this real, or just a sample averaging algorithm?!)

Siglent pros:
Specifies FFT buffer samples (1Mpts)
Upgradeable with 16 digital channels

Anything that I should consider, any other advice?

Some additional info from another thread:
...
  • Mythical SDS2354X-E - Since it doesn't exist, it's free!
If you're willing to wait for a couple of months, you might find your 'mythical' first choice materializing in an unexpected way that exceeds your current imagination…

I am intrigued...  If you know something that I haven't heard yet...
Performa01 gets to test pre market release models and his hint need be taken seriously.....something that I didn't know was coming as I've probably not asked the right ppl.  :palm:
SDS2**2X-E models have evolved from the 1000X-E series and they share the fruits developed in them over the last couple of years and added are 50 ohm inputs and twice the memory to manage the 2GSa/s sampling so to give the same record length.
However the above mention that a 4ch model is not far away is interesting but until we see some specs we can only guess at things like display size or any other fruits it might have.
At this time all these X-E models have 500uV/div sensitivity, an Eres mode for an additional 3 bits of resolution and the FRA/Bode plot feature.
I have a 2352X-E and rate it as a very capable little DSO. The 350 MHz probes it comes with are really nice and a bit smaller than most other probes we see shipped with Siglent DSO's.
While a bigger display might be better for some if it's to be placed on a shelf the display is quite bright enough and there's also the webserver capability if you want to port the display to another bigger display.
This I did with a SDS1104X-E:

If there's any screenshots you want please ask.

Thanks for the hint with the Eres mode.

I just pulled the trigger on the Siglent scope. Should arrive shortly, we'll see...

There’s a recent firmware upgrade for these, do check it’s installed when you get the scope.
If you can’t find a link to it let me know with a reply........
