Hello,
what the experienced people think about the LeCroy WaveAce 2002  (70Mhz 2 Channel) in its price class?
Costs in my region around 1.140Eur

This looks a bit low?
* Memory Length 12 kpts/Ch
* Maximum Memory 24 kpts

i work with switching powersupplies and other mixed ACDC signals.
im also thinking about the lot cheaper Rigol DS2072 but im unsure if it can handle those often nasty signalmixtures.

I'd go for a 4 channel scope. I never ever want a two channel scope.

1140 Euro sounds  like quite a lot of money for a 70MHz bandwidth and 12K memory. I think you could put that kind of money to much better use buying a second-hand Agilent, or one of the chinese scopes if you have the stomach for it.

I personally wouldn't be at all concerned about getting more than 2 channels. Given a limited budget, I'd much prefer 2 higher performing channels than 4 lower performance channels, 2-3 of which will be dormant 90+% of the time. Virtually all of the times I've needed more than 2 channels it was because I was looking at digital signals, so I used a logic analyzer instead - much cheaper per channel.

In my opinion there's very little reason to buy the WaveAce. . The WaveAce are relabelled Atten/Siglent scopes which as Siglents can be had for a lot less if you can live without a black case and the LeCroy label. These scopes also have quite a few nasty issues which may or may not get fixed in future firmware updates. Considering that LeCroy also buys the firmware from Siglent, I wouldn't hold my breath though.

I'd rather even go for the Rigol DS2000 any day before spending money on a WaveAce. Or better yet, buy a 'real' LeCroy (or one of their Iwatsu variants) on the 2nd hand market.

It's a ripoff.
The Rigol 100MHz DS2102 is under EU$1000, and is an infinitely better scope.

I have used the previous version (the beige one)
It felt like a rebadged made in china scope.

Go for the PC based Wave surfer series.

No, they aren't (and using terms like 'LeCrap' is as childish as terms like 'crApple' or 'Micro$oft', and gives me the feeling I'm talking to someone who hasn't left puberty). Their midrange and highend scopes are actually very good, and there's a reason why LeCroy is still considered to be the Mercedes amongst scopes (although that reputation has dimished somewhat in more recent years).

LeCroy has used 'rebadging' in their lower midrange series (WaveJet) and upper midrange/lower highend (Waverunner) before but this was with Iwatsu who make really good scopes. And more importantly, at least in case of the Waverunner these scopes were in fact developed together with Iwatsu (not just bought from them and relabelled) and the software is/was maintained by LeCroy.

The thing with LeCroy however is that they never looked at the entry level seriously, and still believe that rebadging toys from china is enough to hold their own against Agilent or even Tek. Unfortunately the only outstanding thing about the WaveAce is their high price, everything else (software/firmware, user interface, lots of bugs, low hardware quality) screams Atten/Siglent. It's not just that these toys can't keep up with the entry level from other manufacturers, it can't even keep up with Rigol.

It seems LeCroy has found a good way to ruin their reputation for good with smaller shops or startups that one day may want to upgrade to a high end scope.

If you don't mind the size and weight, the "older" LeCroys are the best spec'd and value bar none. I intend to purchase a couple more
in the near future. My first 2 cost me $30K and $50K here in OZ, and I never regretted it. Once CRT's became outdated, they made some
bad decisions on "cheaper" lines. And with the plethora of mid-priced brands available now, you'd be struggling to justify these amounts
nowadays. Still, if you were in to really high-end design, you wouldn't care about the price. I am currently doing comparisons between -
a 9354AL LeCroy, a DS4034 Rigol and and a SDS 7102V Owon after using them on a project for 2 months solid.
First impressions, none come close to the triggering ability / accuracy of the "old" LeCroy.

Considering what free_electron wrote here recently, I'd go for Agilent or Tek (if you don't care about laggy user interfaces). There seem to be very few people (who want to talk about it) who have used scopes from R&S...

Yes and no. It entirely depends on what you need. For example, lets look at the top end: Agilent DSAX96204Q (63GHz 160GSa/s) and LeCroy LabMaster 10 Zi 65 (65GHz 160GSa/s). Both are 4 channel scopes, but while the Agilent is fixed at four channels the LeCroy can be upgraded to 40(!) channels at 65GHz (or 80 channels at up to 36GHz). That's a completely different world.

And Tek tops out at 33GHz and 100GSa/s (DPO/DSA70000 Series).

Is it worth buying?

Yes, if you need the features.

And for some things they are the only game in town.

Well, in the pricerange of ~1000Eur its not easy to choose a scope.
A Tektronix DPO2012B(1150Eur) looks also intresting (but 1Mpts memory)

I wouldn't fixate on the memory depth. 1Mpts is already a lot. I'd try to determine what is important to me when buying a scope and then compare specs and read what other people have to say about te scope (bugs, features, etc).

Yes, but they have nothing similar to Tek Wave Inspector... No marks or search capabilities. The Owon even has no delayed timebase (aka zoom) mode.

yes i kept in mind to not fixate on "memory". Is the same with resolution of screen dont remember which scope series,
than a review said it uses 2x2 pixel for each point finally so only half of the 800x600 display. The Tek has only 480x234 as example.

Best "feeling" i have with the Tektronix DPO2012B at the moment for my use.  With 20% vat ~1.300.- Eur *sigh*. How i tell that my wife.
Not important, but finally it not looks like a toy.

Anything known about the software running on it, bugs, ugly menus,...?
