Looking for facts or general information on LVDT sensors and instruments.

Recently I found an old (1980's) instrument from Compac Géneve in my "to do" scrapheap.
Two LVDT sensors with odd connectors showed that they were used together. Web searches
for the manufacturers name gives nothing at all except from two hits on swiss auction
sites and those clearly show a connection to watch manufacturing. The highest
sensitivity setting is ±199.0 µm (with a resolution of 100 nm (nanometer)).

If anyone here has experience from LVDT use and the instruments used I can elaborate
and give more details and my specific questions.
