Looking for multimeter
« on: March 06, 2017, 01:16:27 pm »
Hi, I'm looking for a new multimeter, right now I'm looking at the Radio Spare pro (Iso-tech) RS Pro IDM99IV Digital Multimeter http://uk.rs-online.com/web/p/digital-multimeters/8732367/ and the Testo 760-3 http://uk.rs-online.com/web/p/digital-multimeters/9055882/

The Testo series does away with the rotary switch, which I think is a plus but the battery life is suspect using only three AAA of which isn't mentioned, my criteria is I prefer one with a bar graph display.

I wonder has anyone come across these and wouldn't mind sharing their thoughts, thanks.

Dave.

I haven't used either, but the RS Pro IDM99IV is made by Appa Technology.

The dual display on the Testo might be interesting for some measurements?

I have not used either but the Testo 760-3 looks real interesting.  The only thing from a hobbyist standpoint that I don't like is the 2.5V cap on the diode testing (prefer at least 3.2 to get some white LEDs tested) although the RS Pro is only 2.0V.   The capacitive ranges are much better on the Testo (down to 1pf vs 1nf and up to 60mf vs 10mF) as well as the voltage settings going down to .1 mV on DC as well as AC.  The RS Pro has AC+DC current support and the Testo does not.   Testo goes up to 60MHz on frequency compared to 100kHz on RS Pro.

I guess it would come down to if you need AC+DC measurements or better component (resistor/capacitor/DC/Frequency/voltage) ranges as to which would work best for you.

Thank you to retiredcaps & BroMarduk.

I was beginning think I'd posted on the wrong board when I saw Metrology.... I thought it was Meteorology, 'Silly me'.

After doing a lot of searching I came across this thread right here on EEVblog https://www.eevblog.com/forum/testgear/opinion-sought-on-testo-760-2-multimeter/ the internal pictures make me kinda shudder.
