Title: Looking for Schematic: Marconi 2031
Post by: Larry F on May 28, 2014, 07:18:33 pm
I picked up a used 2031 sig gen.  I've found the operating manual online but I haven't found the schematic anywhere.  I like to collect all the information in case I have to make repairs in the future.  If anyone can help, please let me know.

I suspect that one has never been released. The fractional N synth in there was proprietary, had a hatful of patents on it.

There's some more info here

That was my concern.  Back in the day, Racal had their Kingphase fractional N, HP had one and I guess Marconi did too.  Are the patents still in force on fractional N?  I'm not sure why the rest of the synthesizer would be proprietary though, this many years later.   I'm working on a 2023A right now and the documentation on that is excellent.  I was hoping to find something similar on the 2031.

Have you tried asking Aeroflex directly?

Any luck on getting the service manual? I am also in need of it.

I've emailed Aeroflex directly and their West Coast USA distributors yesterday and am awaiting a response.

The 2031 signal generator service manual is part # 46880/047

My search through the web has so far turned up nothing.

Heard back from Aeroflex. They want $400.00 USD for the service manual. :D

I think that must be one amazing document.

Is that for a hard copy or pdf?

They sent me the service manual for my 2024 free of charge in pdf format at a time when it wasn't freely available on the net.

I haven't responded back yet, but will clarify if that pricing is for printed or electronic or either.

I've already repaired my 2031 without it and read the EEPROM to get the unlock codes.

I will ask if I can get it as PDF for less and perhaps at hobbyist pricing. I had to submit an export affidavit before I could even get a quote. They don't want the manual exported out of the US without control.

Thanks for that!

Strange it never showed up in my ebay searches even under International.

The Aeroflex manual was printed only. No digital copy available, they say.

The eBay seller (thanks immensely to mij59 for finding it) sold me a perfect digital copy. I doubt he scanned it himself, so the digital copy exists. And, I have it now.

A couple of notes for those with this siggen. The EEPROM located on the topside processor board, a AT28C64B stores the calibration data, and importantly the UNLOCK codes to get into calibration and/or set clock etc.

If you don't know the codes for your machine, pull this chip (it is socketed) and read it (the TL866 series is compatible). You will find these memory locations useful

level 1 unlock code 0x0248
level 2 unlock code 0x024c
unit serial number 0x0260

Data is in ASCII

I've just landed me a 2030, which all looks to be in good order. Far more modulation options than I will ever need!  I don't have the Calibration procedure, and didn't realy want to run to a whole maintenance manual just for that.  Does anyone have the Cal routines?

By the way, I discovered that, on my instrument at least, the unlock codes 1,2 were 1234 and 123456, respectively!

Screen is a bit wishy-washy, but I think it is probably as good as it ever was. Large dot matrix LCD screens in 1990, anyone?  :(

Hello KK,
I am just repairing my Marconi 2032 with a corrupted calibration EEPROM. I think you have analyzed the contents.
Is it possible to get the complete bin file of the EEPROM (IC114) to check if I could restore the calibration data
in my 2032 ?

Best regards and thanks

Hi
i'm searching desperately the schematic diagram of Marconi 2031 . The attenuator was burnt by a WHF and now has a gap between -80 , -70 dbm ; all the rest works correctly.
Can you help me?
Thanks
