Anybody know what the stuff is called on the old-school Weller solder iron pencils? over the years I have had to cut mine down, but I love the original cable!

Then it´s for the TCP Magnastat irons, it´s a silicone sleeved cable.
Sparepart example:

Thank you!

I'm hoping to find it in bulk.

I used to grab the damaged irons from work and salvage those silicon cables to make double-length irons for field work. That sure was some sexy cable :)

Not sure why you would want a bulk reel of it, the newer Weller irons we had at work failed due to the cores perishing, they went hard & crunched to bits causing short circuits inside the cable, exactly as you find with some ancient rubber insulated cables.

Just the same with the original white cable of the Weller WECP-20 .
Replaced it with some black silicone cable (source no longer available)
a while ago. Still going strong. :)

You can use bare microphone professional silicon cable at the musician stores.

Best regards

Strangely the older Weller irons never seemed to suffer this problem, can't remember the Antex or Pace irons having this problem either. Ended up transferring the heater/switch assembly to one of the broken older Weller irons.
All gone now though, since work downsized the lab. They only have an Antex iron & Pace desolder station left, which hopefully will get replaced with a combined Metcal unit, as the Pace is getting knackered and a pain to maintain due to work refusing to buy from Farnell, the Pace ended up with the vacuum pump from a dead Weller, as the motors failed in two base stations.

Bulk! Yes, so I can make a 10ft length! :-)

Yeah... it's the older stuff. It never kinks, never melts, never breaks, never twists. Always finds the bad components and makes me sandwiches.
