MaAnt DianBA NO.1 Anyone seen these?
« on: January 22, 2024, 10:33:41 pm »
I know it's a cheap chinesium device designed for mobile phone repairs, but would it be good enough to run USB powered devices such as function generators, arduino etc? I was thinking of getting one of these for the bench.

I looked at a load of videos, most have music and no narration, the others are in a foreign language. I wondered if anyone here has tried one?

I'm sure it would work fine, though its probably more useful if you are repairing lots of phones. You could monitor arduino power level, might be semi useful?
The only concern really is that there is no indication of it being ETL/UL/etc listed.

You can find other sellers with more reviews: https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256805696667989.html

It was cheap, so I've ordered one, if it's good for the USB devices on my bench, I'll post back and let anyone that's interested know. Now I need to wait a couple of weeks for it to make its way to my door.

When it arrives don't turn it on, take it appart first, check if it is a danger to use.

I was considering buying one, but a few poor reviews put me off.  Interested to see what you receive, if it works, and how it is constructed.

I'll post what I think of it. If it explodes I'll post the video on YouTube.

I got this on my bench, plugged it in and it didn't explode! It's a really good addition to the bench, particularly for those on a low budget that use USB powered devices. I can use my TS80, function generator, Arduino, etc. all while charging my mobile on the induction coil on the top. I've not tested to see if what is displayed on the screen correlates to actual voltages, but certainly saves having a pile of wall-wart chargers hanging out of the socket, plus you can monitor power consumption.

I may do a few more tests and make a video, since the videos about just now for this are about as useful as a waterproof teabag.

I have this one on my bench:

https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256805324968637.html

I really like it, especially the fact I can see the power stats for each port at the same time, without having to switch between them. And that it has more USB-C than USB-A ports.

Always good when new gear doesn't explode  :phew:

I'm wondering what it is like in terms of safety, assuming it has mains input.
Have you opened it up, and looked at the quality of mains components, or the creepage and clearance?
Is any of the case metal, and if so is it earthed?  If not, what voltage do you measure (AC or DC) from earth to the USB negative or shield?

I'm thinking of getting the Mechanic brand V-Power 8S - but I hesitate because my last Mechanic brand item (IX5 hotplate) uses an XT30 connector for the mains input...  :scared:

I looked at those, but the max PD port power is 20W, even with the highest-end Ultra model. I have a number of PD devices that take up to 100W, including a few soldering irons that run at 65W. The one I linked to supports 140W on one USB-C port, and 100W on the other two USB-C ports.

Just grabbed one of these too. If I'd seen it sooner, I wouldn't have bought the MaAnt DianBA NO.1.

It would be interesting to see Dave do a review of a bunch of these, putting them through their paces...
