Dear Siglent,
I bought a NEW SNA5012A months ago with the rather expensive TDR option.
I am running into the following problem.
When I have a short DUT I encounter the following message:
DUT lenght is shorter than 14.70588ns
I have passed this on to Siglent EU distributor and asked for a solution months ago.
And I got the answer that it was passed on.
After installing the new firmware several things were resolved, thanks again for that.
Unfortunately, Siglent has done nothing about this specific problem.
I also own a Keysight E5071C network analyzer (TDR option) and it does not suffer from this problem at all with exactly the same setup.
Do you have a solution for me and probably many others?
Marcel
I just hope you explained what exactly was the problem better when you asked for help.
Because we cannot even understand what are you complaining about with no explanation of details how you came about to get this message. Not saying you do not have some problem. But that is exactly it, all we know is you have some problem.
A bit more detail about circumstances, setup and such could help. For all we know, manual might not be clear and you are simply doing something wrong. In which case manual is the one that needs fixing or improving, and device works fine.
Still a problem that needs fixing, but this time it is actually properly identified, so it can be actually fixed.
Claiming that doing exactly the same thing on a completely different device and it works there is not relevant.
It is obvious that TDR option should be able to resolve less than 14ns worth of length (1,2-1,5m) of cable.
Something is wrong, and I do not mean cabling, but in how instrument is parametrized.
No need to check that with other instrument.
Or is cabling setup and calibration/de-embedding something specific or unusual, so it cannot be parameterized into instrument, or it was, but instrument does not accept it or calculates wrong....
Or maybe you are trying to use expecting it should be used exactly the same as other instrument, but this one actually needs different workflow, being, well, different instrument from different manufacturer.
Like I said, it is like walking into service and saying "Something is wrong with my car. Fix it." and walking away. With no further explanation. Makes it hard to even know where to start... Much less to expect a solution..
