MASTECH MS5308 external power voltage rating, tips ?
« on: March 08, 2018, 01:11:16 pm »
Hi I have a brand new MS5308, no idea what year or version of the PCB. I briefly read of external DC power problems with this thing from years ago? Uncertainty with what external voltage to use ? Whats the latest advice on that ? I have lots of decent 12V SMPS from the phone/cable/internet companies. I'd have to use LM7809 or a LM317 for 9V from 1 of those SMPS.

Never used 1 of these before, 1st thing I want to check is the electrolytic caps of an ATX SMPS. I have them already removed, and I know to ALWAYS drain them before testing in this thing.

What settings should I be using to test them ? They are
270u 400V main cap
some 1000uF,2200uf, 3300 at 10V and 16V

Already checked them with my $20 component tester, that gives capacitance, ESR and %loss at 1kHz I think.

I want to 'answer the phone' with this thing in front of my, totally looks like a phone from my peripheral vision
