Meter out of range
« on: February 25, 2024, 01:14:09 pm »
Sorry if this is a bit of a newbie dumb question, but I have the following multi-meter - only about 1 month old

Just recently I noticed that the display is showing fluctuating result on the dc voltage settings, however it always reset to 0 when I touch the red and black probes which I understand is desireaable. however when I try to measure for example a 1.5v Aa battery the screen display 1 - as if out of range. I've tried the other ranges and get the same. The diode/continuity mode seems to work ok.

Any ideas - I tried the battery in another meter and seems ok.

If you've tried all the ranges then it sounds broken to me.

The difference between cheap and expensive meters is how well they survive "events". Did anything bad happen to it?

Looks like bad contact on mode switch. Most of all it works in 200 mV mode instead of 2 V due to bad contact.
Try to disassemble it and clean contacts with rubber and alcohol.

Does the AA cell read correctly in the 20V range?

It's definitely faulty then. If it's only 1 month old then it's returns time.
Best Regards, Chris

I opened it up and cleaned the board, but to be honest it is still pristine inside, made no difference.

I've received a credit on the refund - time to find another - thanks!
