Help needed on Rohde Schwarz UPL with HDD issue
« on: August 19, 2014, 08:28:10 am »
I recently got a non-working UPL audio spectrum analyzer. It is starting up, but would not detect the HDD. I did check the correct boot sequence and auto detect setting as indicated by R&S in a service note, it is correct. So I booted the unit through the Floppy (using a  DOS boot disk) and did a HDD disk scan. It passes without errors, but the disk is totally empty, must have been erased.

Does anybody have a file to load onto the HDD, or a set of disks, or know where to buy it. Have asked R&S, they were doubtfull due to old gear, still open. Any help is appreciated.

You have to find someone with an UPL and get him to clone the HDD content for you.

But maybe only the partition table / filesystem were destroyed.
Try removing the HDD and connect it to a "normal" computer.
Then you could apply Testdisk to try and recover it.

thanks for the hint re. testdisk, i will check that.

Unfortunatelly I do know anybody who has that unit to clone a hdd. Maybe someone ho reads this here in germany has a unit and still has its old hdd and is getting nervous, I would, besides paying a fee, also clone this to a solid state disk.

I did check the hdd with the tool, thanks again for the hint. it scans ok, I can load data onto the disk once I have booted into win98 from floppy. so hdd seems ok overall.

The user manual states that as part of the deliverables a set of floppy disks comes with the unit, one with the OS, the other with the program files (both zipped).
So if anyone has that and could make a copy of both disks that would be a simple solution.

Please post the model number, I will see what I can find.

This is most odd. I have been to three R&S websites and under UPL Firmware the only file is 'R&SĀ®UPP UPx Sequencing Software Operating Manual V 1.0   26.06.2013' The same file appears under the UPP section.

Investigations continue.

On your behalf I have emailed a friend of mine who used to be a field service engineer for R&S, let us see if he can come up with the software.

To all thread members

My source is no longer able to supply software or service information for R&S equipment as he has been forced to return all material back to the company.
